Oh, yes I do -- well over 200 of them on Facebook, but those can't all be counted as "friends." I've always thought of myself as having countless acquaintances but very, very few close friends.
I might have anywhere from five to ten people that I feel really close to and can tell anything or talk about anything with. Then there are probably 20 or 30 people I see on a regular basis who I am close to. And then we get into the countless acquaintances, who are very beneficial to have. "Friends" use each other to get things that they need, so the pool of 200+ on Facebook alone is quite useful.
Naturally, when I'm back home, I have a lot more close friends who I enjoy spending time with on a regular basis than I have when I'm elsewhere.
Plus, I've never seen age as a barrier to friendship. I'm 23, and some of my best friends are 78, 53, 38, 36, a few around my age and one that is 18.
