I have a professor (a very intelligent and moderate one as well) who thinks that this nation is headed towards civil war.  Maybe not for several years, even decades, but we're headed for it.  Just look at the circumstances now: today both parties are discrediting one another, breaking into each other's headquarters and causing trouble, and shredding registrations.  What's to say that this problem won't grow uncontrollable within a few decades.  Certainly not the almighty "ballot box".  The sensible among us would take that route, but fewer people hold the vote in high regard.  And if the problem ever grows out of hand, the peaceniks better well realize that violent protests won't help them.  It'll be all-out hell.

jfern's own reactions (edited by Vorlon for good taste!) help to prove my point.  Good and decent people are getting too wild, too partisan, and too in-your-face.  Not to mention the radical posts that brought him to use such language.  If this is the way the civil discussion is heading, we'd best be prepared for the worst.

Remember that art,  culture and music are in the big cities and not in the rural areas.

What can I say more about the ignorant Religious Right folks?

"They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness"
Psalm (82:5)

Please don't insult my way of life again.  I don't know of your experience with small towns or rural America, but it obviously isn't the same experience that I have had, which has been my entire life.

Depending on how long the war went on, the Democrats would gain an advantage, since we have the scientists and Harvard grads that the GOP doesn't. We also have an escape route, the right doesn't. I know I would fight for my side, and I'm confident in our victory.

Harvard grads matter little when it comes to expertise with weapons.  I don't know that technology (in terms of mass destruction) would matter with any future civil war.  If it did, the "red states" would have a loss less concern for the fate of cities than "blue staters" would have for open spaces and the environment.
