Why Likely D for Comptroller? Simon's name recognition is not as good and Topinka has some sympathizers among ILDems.

Rauner will release partial tax returns three weeks prior to Election Day

Pat Quinn has vetoed the anti-Uber bill, something that Rauner has been campaigning on for months

That has to show concern in the Quinn campaign. The bill was backed by many of the interests that would naturally go to Quinn, and there was a very long drawn-out fight over the passage of this bill in the spring. The veto is clearly calculated to appease some youthful voting groups. The bill passed with veto-proof majorities including most Pubs, and though most of the no votes were Pub there were a handful of liberal Dems from Chicago who voted no as well. I actually agree with the Gov's veto message that the issue of ridesharing regulation should be negotiated in local ordinance, not set by state statute.

It should certainly be of bigger concern for the Rauner campaign. It was supposed to be his in with the youth and urban votes and he already built it up as a major issue in the campaign. Now he has to regroup.

New polling released on down-ballot races:

Attorney General
Madigan (D) 53.69%
Schimpf (R) 29.83%
Undecided 11.2%

Treasurer
Cross (R) 42.46%
Frerichs (D) 34.41
Undecided 23.03%

Comptroller
Topinka (R) 51.41%
Simon (D) 31.37%
Undecided 9.08%

Secretary of State
White (D) 61.3%
Webster (R) 26.04%
Undecided 7.27%

Credit to Reboot Illinois for all polls

Unsurprisingly commanding leads for Madigan, White, and Topinka. The Treasurer race is goin to be really close.

69% of Illinois voters support increasing the minimum wage and 56% support the millionaire tax

Both issues will appear on this year's ballot

Recent out of IL:

UIUC is inviting Quinn and Rauner to debate at the university on October 7. Quinn accepted; Rauner has declined

Neither candidate is willing to take a stance on marijuana decriminalization

New Rauner ad uses Harold Washington's criticism of Quinn against him in an attempt to sway African-Americans

Race for Treasurer is still too close to call, with ~1,000 votes separating the candidates. Cross has the slight lead.

Madigan, White, and Topinka all won reelection.

Mike Frerichs is the next state treasurer

http://politics.suntimes.com/article/springfield/tom-cross-concedes-treasurers-race-giving-frerichs-win/wed-11192014-1206pm

Interesting that he ran ahead of Quinn by the sufficient margin. I knew he would to some degree because he is more popular downstate, but I am surprised he was able to do so enough to win.

Anyway, good for him. He's from Champaign and everything I've ever seen out of him was 100% class.

Frerichs runs against Rauner in 2018 bank on it.

Agreed, and I am excited about it. Frerichs is perfect for the Dems in that one.

Statewide Averages by County:

Statewide PVIs by County:

Good work. We're starting to see Lake County emerge as separate from the rest of the collars politically, something we expected but mostly theorized about until we could get a race that could really demonstrate it like Durbin's.

^ Thanks. I'm by no means an authority on IL politics, but seems that Democrats should be seeing some red flags around East St. Louis, and and Little Egypt in general.

Absolutely. Madison County is noticeable, as it was formerly a mostly-Democratic swing county. It appears to now only be going Democrat in Dem landslides, and it is a pretty well-populated county as well.

Miles told me that this would be a good place to post this.
This is my draft of the results of the Millionaire Tax Referendum in suburban Cook County, IL by township:

Almost all of the townships voted for the tax (except for Barrington, Lemont, and New Trier). The shading/margins varied drastically though.

What do you guys think of this map?

I will now accept my accolades Tongue

Awesome stuff. Hilarious, too, because New Trier went solidly to Obama in 2012. The phenomena of the fiscally conservative suburbanite voting Democrat is fascinating.

RR1997's work gave me the idea to put this together.

How Bruce Rauner won. The governor's election compared to the Senate election in suburban Cook.

Here is Cook County suburbs from the 2010 governor race. You may find that it looks similar to the 2014 governor map.

Rauner wants right-to-work zones in Illinois

http://abc7chicago.com/politics/gov-rauner-announces-right-to-work-zones/493730/

As expected, this is already sparking protests, especially in Champaign, where Rauner spent the day. It's going to be a long four years.

Awesome work! That's the Loop there that went for Rauner. Gold Coast and Near South were close. Same with some of those basically-suburb NW wards.

Do you know if we have one from the 2012 Presidential to compare to?

Fantastic work, Miles! White areas swung incredibly from Obama to Rauner, even while going for Quinn.

State Sen. Daniel Biss wants to run for Comptroller in 2016 special election

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20150130/NEWS02/150139976/are-a-policy-wonk-and-a-former-nfl-player-ready-for-2016

A rising star no doubt, and sure to have a strong fundraising base in Evanston.
