Unfortunately, I think he might be done. If he wanted a political office again, I think he would have gone after Kohl's open seat or Walker this year. I might be wrong though and it could just be that he wants retribution on Johnson himself.

Beyond his awful gun views though in the Senate, I wouldn't mind to see him knock out Johnson. He has a solid record to run on as a bipartisan, but progressive lawmaker that supported the ACA which could help him out in that campaign against Johnson if the law becomes as popular as expected. The problem he could face though is that a lot of the young voters won't remember his campaign finance reform or his vote against the Iraq War - 2 of his best accomplishments. He could certainly appeal to Independents and his base, though. I would advise against him going for the Presidency just so he could give that opportunity to someone who has a better chance of winning like Hillary or Klobuchar.
