: Barack Obama (Democratic)
2012: Gary Johnson (Libertarian) (Actual vote)
2016: Hillary Clinton (Democratic) (Will be actual vote)
Why Johnson in 2012?
Well... at the time I was a Ron Paul-Bernie Sanders type voter, so I was kind of going against the establishment. I went to a Ron Paul rally at U of I and voted for him in the primary. I definitely wanted Obama to beat Romney, but felt like "sending a message" that I wasn't happy with either party at the time. Since Illinois was by no means a swing state, I felt like I could throw an anti-establishment bone to Gary Johnson, who I felt really is a respectable candidate.
Since then however, I have matured and mellowed out. While I am not 100% satisfied with the state of the Democratic Party, I just have to vote for the most qualified candidate. Plus I need to take part in crushing trump.
Perhaps in the past I would have also taken part in more third party candidacies, like Perot '92, Paul '88, Anderson '80. But given the way I view the world today, ^this is how I think I would have voted.
