A Raven to Prince Doran Martell

"My Dear Nuncle,

Word has reached my ears that your brother, my Nuncle Oberyn, has been slain by the Mountain That Rides - just as my mother and my sister were nearly seven-and-ten years ago. He also believed that he had killed mineself but the Gods have stolen from him that joy.

I truly feel your pain and wish to convey the condolences of House Targaryen to House Martell, The Sand Snakes, and all of Dorne. It is my wish for you to convey my regret upon his passing - at the hand of the greatest traitor the Seven Kingdoms have ever known - to your people. Assure them that the Red Viper did not die in vain, that his glory shall be praised, and his honor restored.

With my heartfelt sorrows,
Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm."

A Raven to all  the Lords of the Sevens Kingdoms, Great Houses and Landed Knights Alike

"Most Noble Lords and Ladies,

For 283 years my ancestors ruled the Seven Kingdoms. Aegon the Conqueror, Jaehaerys the Wise, Baelor the Blessed, Daeron the Good. My father, Prince Rhaegar, was beloved by the Seven Kingdoms - small folk and high born alike. The Targaryens ruled justly and with honor and the Seven Kingdoms flourished under their rule. The Seven Kingdoms were united and the King’s Peace stretched from the Wall, to Winterfell, to the Twins, to King’s Landing, to Horn Hill, to Sunspear. In the absence of the Targaryens the Seven Kingdoms are at war - crops are being trampled, fields salted, woman raped and murder. The Targaryens kept the Ironborn in Pyke and forced the Kingswood Brotherhood into submission. It is time for the Dragons to return home.

Some seven-and-ten years ago, an upstart Lord grew jealous of the people’s love for my father. Robert Baratheon - the Usurper, the Whoremonger - was a violent glutton. He slew my father, killed the hope and love of the Seven Kingdoms, and took the Iron Throne to fulfill his own desires. His swords stormed the Red Keep and brutally murdered my mother and my sister in cold blood. A mother and a babe of three years were raped and slaughtered at the hand of the Stag. I was secreted away by those who remained loyal to House Targaryen and raised by Lord Jon Connington in the Free Cities.

Now, a boy sits on the Iron Throne. A boy so violent and terrible his own Kingsguard fears him. A boy so terrible he has his own brother beaten by once honorable knights. A boy so arrogant he presumes the small folk should worship himself rather than the Seven. This boy should be in the yard of a castle, squiring for a knight and learning to use a sword. The Iron Throne is made for a man grown.

The King in the Iron Throne must be powerful, yet kind. He must be firm, yet caring. He must be a man grown and blooded, yet young at heart and slow to anger. He must be of high birth, yet knowledgeable to the struggles of the small folk. He must be a Targaryen, yet a friend to all Houses. For those who doubt my blood, I say only look at mine face. I am Targaryen through and through. Lord Connington tells me I am the image of Prince Rhaegar.

I urge you to follow the path of Lord Selwyn Tarth, Lord Elwood Meadows, and the noble knights and Lords of the Golden Company of Volantis and bend the knee. I swear before the Seven that any Lord or knight who kneels before me shall be received into the King’s Peace. Those who bend the knee will be allowed to keep their lands and titles, while those who opposed me shall fall under the might of the dragon. Bend the knee for the good of the Seven Kingdoms. Bend the knee for the honor of the Iron Throne. Bend the knee for Rhaegar, Elia, and Rhaenys.

With hope,
Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm."

All of his force was around him - sellswords, Lords, knights, and sworn swords.  Aegon sat on a crudely constructed stone throne in the great hall of Storm's End, a weak substitute for the Iron Throne. It will do for the time being. Not too long though. Aegon signaled to Ser Rolly Duckfield, who then banged his spear's butt on the ground several times to establish quiet. Now all eyes were on their King, wearing red armor that was reminiscent of the armor Prince Rhaegar had worn on the Trident.

"Lords! Knights! Sworn Swords!" Ser Rolly shouted across the hall. "We have captured Tarth, and Griffin's Roost, and Storm's End. But those few castles are not why we sailed the Narrow Sea. We sailed the Narrow Sea to return House Targaryen to the Iron Throne! We sailed the Narrow Sea to sit Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm on the Iron Throne!" The hall erupted in cheers and the clatter of swords and spears on the floor.

A servant brought a small wooden box to Ser Rolly, who carried it up to Aegon and kneeled before him, presenting the box. Aegon reach forward, opened the box, and removed the crown within - jagged, in the style of the Iron Throne, and made of copper, to represent the fire of House Targaryen - placing on his head. This set the crowd into a frenzy that took Ser Rolly several minutes to restore order. It takes more than a crown to make a king. Aegon stood and silence swept over the hall.

"There are several offices a king is obligated to fulfill." Aegon said "One of them are the seven knights of a Kingsguard. Ser Franklyn Flowers! Come forward to your king." Ser Flowers came forward and kneeled in front of Aegon, who drew a sword from his ruby red sheath. Flowers recited the Kingsguard oath as Aegon lightly touched the sword to each of Flowers' shoulders. "Rise, Ser Franklyn Fossoway, knight of the Kingsguard of Aegon Targaryen. I hereby remove the stain of bastardy from your name, and legitimize you as Franklyn of the House Fossoway of Cider Hall." Aegon draped a white cloak over Fossoway's shoulders and handed him a white shield. "This is the first knight of my Kingsguard. Soon, he shall be joined by six of the best knights the Seven Kingdoms have ever known!" Assuming there are any knights left when I get to King's Landing.

"Jon Connington, come forward to your king." Aegon said as Ser Franklyn moved to the side. Connington knelt before the King. You may hate me for this, but it is what must be done for the good of the Seven Kingdoms. "Jon of House Connington, I hereby restore you as Lord of Griffin's Roost, your ancestral home." Connington staid kneeling for several moments, expecting more. "You may rise." Aegon said. Lord Connington moved back to the rear of the hall where he had been standing before, with the troops he had been given command over.

"It is also my will that Lord Selwyn Tarth be appointed Master of Ships and the Commander of the King's Navy!" The hall cheered once more as Lord Tarth stood and acknowledged his position. Once order was restored, Aegon yelled "And now, to King's Landing!"

A Proclamation from King Aegon

"It is my good and true will that the Court of the Seven Kingdoms be held in Storm's End from this point forth. I welcome all Lords and Knights to come to Storm's End to bend the knee and pledge their swords to me there. I also invite any and all survivors of the tragic burning of King's Landing to make their way down the King's Road to Storm's End, to begin anew and rebuild a new capital for this new chapter of the Targaryen Dynasty.

Further, with the Seven as my witness, I appoint Prince Doran of House Nymeros Martell of Sunspear as the Hand of the King. He is mine Nuncle and one of the Lords who were paramount to my successful return to Westeros. He shall give wise counsel to mineself and the rest of my Small Council.

Further, with the Seven as my witness, I name Areo Hotah - Captain of the Guards of Sunspear - a Knight of Westeros and raise him to my Kingsguard. He has kept the people of Sunspear safe for years and I trust him with my life.

Further, with the Seven as my witness, I appoint Lord Varys as Master of Whisperers - a post he held under mine grandfather for several years. He too was paramount to my joyous return to Westeros.

Further, with the Seven as my witness, I appoint Ser Rolly Duckfield as the Commander of the City Watch. He protected me in my travels through the Free Cities and will, I trust, help keep order in Storm's End and assist in the establishment of a new capital.

This is my will,
Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm"

A Raven to all  the Lords of the Sevens Kingdoms, Great Houses and Landed Knights Alike
Two Ravens to the following Lords: Tyrion Lannister of Casterly Rock, Edwyn Frey of the Twins, Mariya Darry of Darry, Tytos Blackwood of Raventree Hall, Jason Mallister of Seagard, Roose Bolton of the Dreadfort, and Yohn Royce of Runestone

"Most Noble Lords and Ladies,

Stannis Baratheon wishes to claim to be the true Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. I ask him, where is his army? Where are his holdings? Where are his leal lords? Why is he freezing on the Wall - a place for criminals and outlaws?

I have an army, growing by the day, of trained soldiers, knights, and Lords. Stannis Baratheon has a ragtag band of tribal savages.

I have a strong castle at my command. Stannis Baratheon must encroach upon the hospitality of the Night's Watch for a place to sit, sleep, and eat.

I have several Lords who have taken the knee - great men like Selwyn Tarth, Elwood Meadows, Jon Connington, and Doran Martell. Stannis Baratheon has a bastard son of Eddard Stark in Winterfell.

I am in Storm's End, only a day's march from the ruins of King's Landing, and the center of Westeros. Stannis Baratheon is many weeks from the Twins, and a moon's turn from King's Landing.

I am building a new capital for the small folk near Storm's End. Stannis Baratheon wishes to spirit the small folk away to Dragonstone - a dreary little island that was once the seat of my House.

I hold the Seven dear to me and pray as hard as Baelor the Blessed, my ancestor. Stannis Baratheon is a heretic, sending his praise to a fire demon from Asshai.

Stannis Baratheon claims that King's Landing burned under my father. My father, the beloved Prince Rhaegar, was robbed of the right to sit the Iron Throne because of the Usurper. My grandfather, King Aerys II, was murdered by his Kingsguard after years of betrayal and deceit. The only time that King's Landing burned was under the Baratheon Usurpers.

Stannis Baratheon is another Baratheon Usurper.

With hope,
Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm."

Aegon stepped out onto the balcony off his solar and stared off, down at the small folk milling about and setting up temporary housing and tents. Ser Aero Hotah and Ser Garth Hightower stood behind Aegon, at the door of the solar. Good knights, those two are. But not a full Kingsguard. He now had three knights in his Kingsguard and several of the positions were promised to the sons of noble Lords, but one position was vacant - the Lord Commander. Time will forge the Lord Commander. He who serves me truly, faithfully, and honestly will be the obvious choice. A maester entered the solar and scurried up to King Aegon, a parchment in hand. He handed it to the King and stepped aside.

"Sers, it appears your job has become easier." Aegon said to his knights. "House Tyrell has bent the knee!" A smile stretched from ear to ear on Aegon, for just a moment. I'm a king, not a boy. I must act like it. "Maester, write back to Lord Tyrell and thank him for his continued service to House Targaryen." The maester bowed and left, as quickly and quietly as he had arrived. Aegon took one look over the balcony, catching the eye of a young girl running around in the yard. He smiled at her before turning inside. Aegon placed his copper crown on his head and clasped his sword-belt about his waist before signaling for Ser Areo to lead the way.

The three processed into the great hall of Storm's End, where King Aegon has established his court. The rough stone throne of before had been replaced since he last held court, instead a simple ebony throne sat on the dias, with iron dragon heads for the armrests and a red cushion on the seat. Not the Iron Throne, but it is what I have. Aegon sat as Ser Rolly Duckfield banged his spear and established order - several lords and knights had made the travel to Storm's End to bend the knee before Aegon.

Before the procession of lords could begin, Aegon had a decree. "Lords, Ladies, knights. One of the many facets of kingship is the dispensing of justice. Edmure Tully had his titles stripped from him by Jaime Lannister -" He was interrupted by shouts and jeers are the mention of the Kingslayer. It's good to know they still resent him for killing my grandfather. "Under orders from the Usurper's boy-king Joffrey. He escaped death due to the kindness of Lord Mace Tyrell, may the Seven keep him, and is living in Highgarden as a criminal. It is my will that Edmure Tully be pardoned of any crimes against the Throne and that all titles and holdings stripped from him be restored." The room erupted in cheers, although Aegon wasn't sure if they were cheering for Edmure or against Lannister.

Aegon sat back down on his throne and the first Lord approach to bend the knee and declare his swords and banners for House Targaryen and King Aegon. The line today is longer than yesterday, and then was longer than the day before.

Aegon VI

"I'm sorry, Your Grace." The Maester said, after reading Aegon the news of Lord Connington's capture. Aegon threw his cup across the hall, sending wine spilling across his Small Council table. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw his Queen flinch away - ever so slightly. I must control myself. I am not the Mad King. As a servant moved to clean the spill, Aegon raised his hand, got off his throne, took the rag, and cleaned the table himself.

"I apologize for that outburst. It's just...Jon was a father to me." Aegon said, as he returned to his throne. "He helped spirit me out of King's Landing, keep me safe in Essos, and teach me how to be a King. He's the one that gave me all I have of my parents - my mother's armring. To hear of his capture is...is..." Aegon trailed off. Arianne reached over and squeezed his hand. He took a moment to regain himself.

"To the matter at hand. Lord Connington has been taken prisoner by Yohn Royce and given over to Stannis. He is likely dead." The words echoed across the chamber. Those members of the Small Council who were present - and few they were, as most were away leading Aegon's armies - sat in silence as did the several lords and ladies in attendance. "I have always believed that a son for a son, a daughter for a daughter, and a father for a father. Stannis taken from me both a valued counselor and a strong general. For that, I will take from him a valued counselor and a strong general."

At Aegon's signal, Lord Commander Areo Hotah and Commander of the City Guard Rolly Duckfield brought into the chamber two captives - taken from the ruins of King's Landing - wrapped in chains, with hoods over their heads. Aegon stood as the captives were brought in and forced to kneel before him. Their hoods were removed at Aegon's command.

"Gyles Rosby, former Lord of Rosby. You are here on charges of treason against the Crown by assisting the Usurper, his boy-king, and House Baratheon. Do you deny your crime?" The former Lord Rosby kept his eyes on the ground. Aegon took a step forward and asked again "Do you deny your crime?" Again, Rosby did not answer. Aegon reached down and took Rosby by the chin and forced him to look at the King. "Do you deny your crime?" Rosby only coughed, spattering Aegon with spittle.

Lord Commander Hotah handed Aegon a freshly sharpened sword. "It is my duty to dispense justice, as my Master of Laws is away." Aegon told his prisoner. The Lord Commander forced Rosby's head down, as Aegon said a brief prayer to the Seven. And then he swung. It took two swings to cut through the final sinews of the sickly Master of Coin. Within the hour, Ser Ronnet Connington had also lost his head to the King's sword.

"Preserve these heads, send them North. One to the Nightfort, one to Stannis." Aegon told Lord Commander Hotah as he took his Queen's arm and led her out of the chamber. I was taught how to be a King, and today I have become a King. He took Arianne to their chamber, with Ser Garth Hightower as their guard, and performed the second duty of a King - producing an heir.

Aegon VI

Aegon was abed with his Queen, doing his favorite duty. They had done so every evening since their wedding and bedding - and several afternoons when Aegon could slip away from the Small Council - in an attempt to produce an heir. "A King must have an heir and many spares" Jon Connington had told Aegon while they still hide as Griff and Young Griff in Pentos. Since, he had heard from the Septons and Maesters that too many heirs was the cause of the Dance - something Aegon was sure to want to avoid. Aegon had spilled his seed in Arianne every time and still none had planted and taken hold. If the Dornishwoman cannot give me a son, I will take another bride Aegon told himself, although he did truly love his cousin.

He rolled himself off of her, breathing heavily and sweating. And then a horrible noise filled his ears. A deep voiced shout - a scream - and then a harsh crash. Iron scraped on stone, bones shattered, flesh exploded. Aegon threw off his bed covers and ran to the window, threw it open, and stepped out onto the balcony - the cool autumn air turning his skin to gooseflesh and sending his manhood erect. He looked over the railing as his Queen came out, covered with a loose cloth. He took her in his arms and tried to turn her away, to spare her the sight, but she saw. Her body shuddered as her brain registered what her eyes were taking in.

Ser Arys Oakheart, sworn knight of the Kingsguard of three kings from two Houses, lay broken on the ground of the central courtyard of Storm's End. Blood coated the stones and bits of flesh lay spattered around as the castle's residents came out to respond to the scene. Commander of the City Watch Rolly Duckfield and a legion of his crimson cloaks - Aegon had dispensed with the use of gold cloaks after the burning of King's Landing - stormed into the courtyard and forced people away from the body. Aegon looked down at Rolly, who looked up at Aegon, and a silent message passed between them. Clean this up well.

Aegon turned his Queen and ushered her back to bed. As he was covering her Lord Commander Areo Hotah, Ser Garth Hightower, and Ser Franklyn Fossoway burst into the King's chamber.

"Your Grace, we came as soon as we heard." Hotah said through labored breaths. "Ser Arys - he fell from his watch."

"I saw." Aegon responded as he went to his chest and withdrew a set of soft, cotton robes dyed in a sharp Targaryen red. He dressed himself, put his crown on his head, and kissed Arianne before going through the small side door that led to his solar. "Lord Commander, remain with the Queen. Ensure her safety.". I know I won't have to geld the Lord Commander. He wouldn't use his manhood if his life depended on it.

Paxter Redwyne is dead, one of his sons is Lord. Tongue

Which one? They're twins so I don't know how inheritance would work.

Aegon VI

"Rise, Ser Ryon Allyrion." King Aegon embraced his seventh and final Kingsguard and presented him to the assembled Lords and Ladies. Ser Ryon stepped to the side and joined the ranks of the Kingsguard - including the other two newly minted brothers. Now I have a full seven, Aegon thought Perhaps this is a sign from the gods, blessing my reign. Aegon also now had a full Small Council, and a Queen as well. I'm beginning to look like a proper King.

He turned to the assembled and said "I have consummated my marriage. However, an heir has yet to grace our halls. Until a child is born of my union it is my will that Daenarys of House Targaryen - sister of me beloved father and Dragonlady of Volantis - shall be my sworn and proper heir. I name her Princess of Storm's End - the title that all heirs to the throne shall hold - and welcome her to Westeros with the open arms of a family long separated." There was mild applause from the Lords and Ladies, clearly that had been expecting an announcement of the birth of a proper heir.

"I thank you all for attending today's session of my court, and now I ask Commander Duckfield and the Crimson Cloaks to empty the Hall." Aegon sat on his throne and reached over to take his Queen's hand. He stole a glance at her belly, hoping for even the earliest sign of a pregnancy. Bedding the Queen had become difficult since the death of Ser Arys - she insisted on wearing black in mourning for the loss of the Sworn Brother. Only further proof of the doubts of your fidelity.

Once the hall was empty - save for several selected lords and knights - Aegon addressed his Small Council. "We are about to engage in a large scale assault." The King said. He had dressed in his finest crimson robes and wore his newly forged crown - a band of red gold studded with sapphires and rubies. He needed to appear as regal as possible for today's meetings. "This will be the largest host I've commanded since the landing of the Golden Company. For this operation, we must have the rigid organization of the Unsullied and the fierceness of the Dothraki."

"Lord Anders Yronwood, you shall command the vanguard of my host.

"Lord Duncan Strong, you shall command the scouts of my host.

"Lord Harry Strickland shall command the archers and Lord  Lorimas Mudd shall command our Elephant Company.

"Lord Laswell Peake, you shall have command over the left cavalry and Lord Robert Cafferen will have the right.

"The rear will be commanded by Lord Warryn Beesbury.

"I too shall ride with the host - holding command over the foot soldiers of the host, with Ser Vortimer Crane as my deputy."

Aegon paused and looked to his Small Council for their opinion. None expressed their discontent. "We are setting out to assert ourselves as a force not to be rivaled with - any Stormlord who dares defy our force will quickly be sent to the Seven for eternal judgement."

"Lord Commander Areo, I name you Castellan of Storm's End. You are to hold this castle at any cost and protect my Queen from any harm. Ser Horas and Ser Franklyn will remain here to assist the Lord Commander. The remaining Kingsguard - Sers Garth, Archibald, and Allyrion - will accompany me and serve as my personal guard during this campaign." King Aegon rose from his seat, bringing his wife to a stand with him.

"I will enjoy the greatest pleasure the Seven could give a man - the warmth of his wife - once more. At first light, we ride."

Aegon VI

Blackfyre - the sword that launched five rebellions will be the sword to win me my kingdom. Aegon wiped the Valyrian hand-and-a-half longsword down with his oilcloth, removing the last remnants of blood that were on it. I slew my first man today he thought I could have hung the outlaw, but that would have been too kind. The vanguard had come across a band of outlaws in the Kingswood and sent the leader back to the King for judgement. Blackfyre cut through the man's neck faster than a noose could be tied.

"Your Grace..." Aegon's squire - Perros Blackmont - came into the tent with a parchment in hand. He handed it to Aegon and began to undress the King from his armor.

Aegon read over the parchment, expecting word from one of his generals or his Hand. The Seven are truly great! Aegon thought after he read it for a second time. He turned to Perros and embraced the young Dornishman. Aegon threw his armor off and ran out of his tent to the makeshift council room that had been put up a few tents away.

"My Lords," Aegon said as he strode in. Lords Yronwood, Peake, Beesbury, and Strong were in the middle of pouring over a map and looked up. "The Queen is with child." The tent burst into applause, leading other knights, soldiers, and Lords to enter and join in the celebration.

Aegon had drained two cups of ale before he stepped out for air and to make water. Winter is coming, as the Starks say Aegon told himself as he relaced his pants Let's see the Fire Demon keep Stannis' army fed. It got him thinking about the Starks and his young ward back in Storm's End - Sansa Lannister, wife of the Imp and half-sister of the Bastard. A sorry life for someone so young and beautiful.

Aegon VI

The King in the South, the singers and Maesters had taken to calling Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name. Even Aegon the Conqueror began with a foothold, the Seven Kingdoms were not one over night. Aegon stood in the solar of Antlers, the former seat of House Buckwell. He had taken the castle as his own once the town fell to his army. Lord Duncan Strong had urged Aegon to take a tent in the field with the soldiers, but Aegon would have no part of it. "Am I a king or a squire?" the Targaryen had lashed out in response.

Although he had just celebrated his 20th nameday, Aegon felt that many still viewed him as the small babe that was spirited out of King's Landing. He refused to remain in the field with his troops, in part, because it made him feel like many were viewing him as a squire - a young boy just earning his spurs. Aegon hated being treated as less than a king.

He had read, while waiting in Pentos, of the Targaryen Madness. Aegon tried at all times to suppress the fire that burned his mind - to scream, to burn, to kill - and yet it still broke through his defenses. Oft at night, Aegon would dream of hanging men above a fire pit, watching and laughing as the flames licked at their feet, at their clothes, at the rope around their neck. All of his dreams ended with Stannis and his Fire Witch being burned and devoured by a dragon - truly returning the Stag to his fiery demon. Although Aegon woke each morning with a smile, he was forced to tell his Queen it was her beauty that put the pleasure on his face. If any one were to know of my thoughts, of my dreams, of my true pleasures they'd crown me as the Mad King reborn. His waking hours were largely spent fighting the urge to have men gutted, hanged, burned, and thrown from high towers. Especially those knights and Lords who thought, because Aegon was younger than them, that he would cave to their will. I am not a boy. I am a man grown, a King, and soon a father.

No one ever questions Daenerys, and yet I'm three years her elder Aegon often thought. His mind often wondered to his Aunt and her campaign across Essos. Some of his advisers encouraged Aegon to send forces to Pentos and the Free Cities to aid in the fighting of Daenerys. But he recalled Harry Strickland, now Lord of Griffin's Roost, naming Daenerys as Aegon's most powerful weapon to the throne. So Aegon set his sights on Westeros and set his swords against the Stag, his allies, and the Ironborn.

As he sat in the solar of Antlers, preparing to retire for the night, there was a knock at the door. Ser Vortimer Crane - Kingsguard and Aegon's deputy commander of the foot host - allowed himself into the solar. In his hand was a parchment. When he unrolled it, a painting of Sansa Stark was revealed.

"Your Grace," Ser Vortimer said "This came from Storm's End. It would seem that the Lady Stark is getting restless at the capital, seeking to venture out of the castle proper."

"That time will come." Aegon said, taking up a cup of Dornish red he had poured himself. "Sansa is too important to me, to my - to our conquest. The last true Stark? Jon is a bastard oath breaker. If we want to win the North, we must have a viable Lord or Lady to sit in Winterfell."

"But Your Grace, you made Bolton your Warden of the North."

"A ploy, to attempt to give the Northmen who remain loyal to my House a rallying point. That bastard too turned once power was given to him." Aegon sipped his wine. He had taken to the cups recently - it oft helped him better express himself and his intentions. "A proclamation will come on the morrow. Sansa's marriage to the Lannister Imp will be declared null, as they never consummated it and she will be named the true Lady of Winterfell - albeit from Storm's End for the time. All that remains of my Northern strategy is the birth of my child. May the Seven favor me with a son."

A Proclamation from King Aegon

"It is my good and true will, with the Seven as my witness, that Sansa of House Stark and Tyrion of House Lannister are to no longer be considered wed - as the marriage was never consummated in the eyes of the Crown and the Seven.

Futher, with the Seven as my witness, Sansa of House Stark will henceforth by styled the Lady of Winterfell and serve as the Warden of the North. Until her coming of age, she will remain in Storm's End as the ward of Queen Arianna.

Further, with the Seven as my witness, until Lady Sansa of House Stark comes of age and returns to Winterfell, justice for the North will be administered by the Crown, from the capital at Storm's End.

This is my will,
Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm"

Aegon VI

Aegon stood at the edge of the camp they had set up for the night, standing on the crest of a hill. He looked North and saw the fires of the Arryn-Baratheon-Royce army. He looked East and heard the flapping of leathery wings. He look South and smelled the salt sea and the Ironborn sailing about. He had been in the cups since sunrise and it was now well past moonrise.

A squire approached the Targaryen, squeamishly. In his hand was a roll of parchment with the seal of Lord Varys on it. Aegon snatched it up and dismissed the boy. Useless idiot, they all are. He tore of the seal and feverishly read it. "Your Grace, the Roses have shown their true roots. They have turned on us - and towards Stannis." Now Aegon looked West and saw the army of Tarly marching on him. He threw the parchment down and slammed his heel into it.

"I AM THE KING!" Aegon screamed. His anger had boiled over, not fought back in anyway by the ale and wine he was drowning in. "I AM A TARGARYEN! I AM MADE TO RULE!" The four kingsguard who had accompanied Aegon on his campaign North came running up the hill to him, swords drawn.

"Your Grace, what is the matter?" Ser Garth Hightower asked as he approached Aegon, who recoiled at the sight of the Reachman.

Aegon drew Blackfyre, which never left his side these days, and pointed it at Hightower's chest. "You, damn Reachman, are the matter. Lower your sword, lay it on the ground." Hightower looked sideways at Sers Vortimer Crane, Ryon Allyrion, and Archibald Yronwood who were just as confused. Hightower put his sword on the ground and stepped back, his hands above his head.

"Your Grace..." Crane said, only to be silenced by a wild glare from Aegon. Aegon's head was dripping with sweat, his hair matted with sweat and dirt as he had stopped bathing for nearly a moon's turn.

"You bloody Reachman, you bloody traitor!" Aegon sprang forward and Blackfyre sliced through Hightower's armor like a knife into warm butter. Blood spurted out of the hole as Hightower collapsed onto the ground and Aegon sprang onto him, hacking away at the dying man's neck, head, and face. Ser Vortimer Crane and Ser Archibald Yronwood pulled Aegon off of their former companion. Aegon broke free of their grip, slippery yet sticky with blood and sweat.

There was a wild fire burning in Aegon's eyes as he held Blackfyre in his hand and pointed it at Crane and Yronwood. The two knights had their swords drawn as well, although a terrible confusion left them mostly unable to use them. Ser Ryon Allyrion was on his knees, laying over Hightower's body - crying, shaking, and praying like a madman. The two had formed a bond during their time together in the kingsguard.

"Allyrion! A Dornishman crying for a Reachman? What would your family think?" Aegon shouted at Ser Ryon, who didn't seem to hear Aegon's ranting. "Answer me! You pest!" Still, Ser Ryon remained on the ground. "You traitor! You cur! Bastard!" Aegon charged at Ser Ryon and planted a strong kick square in the knights jaw with the sickening crunch of bone. Blood immediately began to trickle down the Dornishman's face as he fell onto his back. Aegon stomped on his face once more before jabbing Blackfyre into Ser Ryon's eye. There came a terrible cry from Ser Ryon that was cut short by another blow to the jaw. Aegon kicked the lifeless body and sent it rolling over, down the hill.

The Targaryen now turned towards the final two knights with him. "Are you going to betray me too? Was this all your plan?" Aegon was now shaking badly, Blackfyre wobbling like a rubber toy. His black robes were as crimson as a setting sun and his face looked wild as a savage wolf. "Who else knew of this plan? Varys? Mopatis? My father? Tell me!" Aegon's shouting, matched with the sounds of the death of two noble knights, was beginning to draw attention. Several of Aegon's leal lords and knights had made their way to the hilltop, to see what the commotion was. They formed a circle around their king and the two kingsguard who remained standing.

Suddenly, Aegon fell to his knees. He threw his head back and sobbed, sobbed harder than any man should sob. "I'm sorry! I've failed you father! You wanted me to be king - you wanted me to avenge you and I've failed!" Aegon's stood up but nearly fell over, due to a mixture of his shaking, drunkenness, and rage.

Doubled over in rage and covered in blood, Aegon clutched Blackfyre in his hand. His eyes darted around at the many faces looking at him. Ser Vortimer sheathed his sword and stepped toward the king. "Get away from me!" Aegon screamed at the knight. "You're a Reachman! You're here to kill me? I won't let you do it!" Aegon stabbed Blackfyre once more, with a force built on pure rage and sadness.

And the body of Aegon Targaryen, Sixth of the His Name, fell to the ground as brackish, sticky blood spilled out of his chest - where Blackfyre was buried deep.

What is dead may never die Aeron Damphair stood on the stony shore of Pyke, looking the the East and the Westerosi mainland. Many Ironborn had been killed during Euron's War for power, A war that never should have been fought. Aeron waded into the salt sea, letting the Drowned God pull and tug at his roughspun robes. It had been many moons since the Kingsmoot - which the Damphair had called to prevent Euron from taking the Seastone chair. It was the Drowned God's will. He needed more strong oarsmen. Whether it was because of Dragons, Lions, or Krakens themselves the numbers strongly agreed with that claim.

'Damphair," Tarle the Thrice Drowned shouted from farther down the beach "A ship from Lannisport has arrived. News of Euron's trip to Essos."

Aeron reached his hard hands into the sea and poured the water, the cool, salty lifeblood of the Drowned God over his head before turning to join the circle of Drowned Men that had formed near the docks, as cargo was being unloaded from the longship.

"What news be there of my brother?" Aegon barked at a passing oarsman, coarse and hard with many years of service to the Seastone Chair. "How did he fair?"

"What is dead may never die." The oarsman grunted and walked away.

"What is dead may never die, indeed." Aeron replied sullenly. He simply walked off, into the sea. The Drowned God's waters pulling at his clothes, weighing the Damphair down, lapping at his hair. The Drowned Men followed their priest into the water, adding their silent prayers to his.

....

It is with this that I assert my claim as the rightful heir to the Seastone Chair. Aeron set the letter down on the driftwood table in his small abode - really just a cupboard on the coast of Pyke. Asha, once again, claimed the Seastone Chair for herself. Women cannot sit the Seastone Chair, it is the will of the Drowned God. This is known well through our history. Aeron had established himself as the regent of the Iron Islands, as the highest religious leader and an elder member of House Greyjoy, and ruled over them through the Drowned Men.

Within hours of the news of Euron's demise, Aeron and the Drowned Men began their plans for a new Kingsmoot. That involved the removal of many of Euron's men - Lords and commonborn alike. Many were imprisoned in prisons, for crimes against the Drowned God. Some, however, were given a much more fitting punishment - a return to the watery halls of the Drowned God. Only then, after many and more of Euron's loyalists and captains had been silenced, did Aeron travel to Pebbleton and preach for a new Kingsmoot to be held.

....

The Kingsmoot, only the second in many thousands of years, was a more subdued affair than its immediate predecessor. Only three major candidates stood, and only two of those were on Nagga's Hill. The first, Lord Gylbert Farwynd, stood with three of his sons as his champions. His gifts, as they were in the last Kingsmoot, were poor - Bronze weaponry and whale bones. Fewer than last supported his claim. The second, Asha Greyjoy, was represented by Ser Harras Harlaw - her only supporter who remained in the Iron Islands rather than join her in the Stepstones. Harlaw was booed loudly and several Drowned Men called Asha's claim invalid, as she was not at the Kingsmoot herself.

The third claimant was the only remaining son of Quellon Greyjoy - Victarion. Victarion stood with several captains from his fleet as his champions. He spoke on continuing the strong governance of Ballon, his dear brother, and slammed Euron for leading the Ironborn to destruction in "frivolous" campaigns. His gifts were greater than any seen in recent years: The many moons of reeving up and down the coast had loaded the holds of Victarion's ships with plenty of gold, jewels, weapons, and saltwives. Without a doubt, he was the chosen Iron King.

Aeron stepped forward and held up his hands for silence. His hair dripped with salt water, splatting on the stones that lined the Hill. Victarion kneeled before his brother and bowed his head. The Damphair uncorked a skin of saltwater and poured it over the Captain's head, muttering prayers more ancient than the Age of Heroes. Another Drowned Brother brought force the final piece of the Kingsmoot. Aeron took the driftwood crown and set it on Victarion's head. He placed his hand on his shoulder and proclaimed the new King to the Ironborn.

"What is dead may never die." He muttered, the assembled repeated the solemn prayer back. "Rise, Victarion of House Greyjoy, King of the Isles, King of the Salt and Rock, Son of the Sea Wind, Lord Reaper of Pyke!"
