I had two opposing links appearing on my Facebook feed.

https://scotthuggins.wordpress.com/2016/12/06/fear-itself-why-i-wear-the-safety-pin-a-promise/ and http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/if-you-see-drinking-straw-stapled-shirt-heres-what-it-means

Based on the people who posted them, I have to take both of them sincerely.

So, are these drinking straws an actual thing?  This is the first I've heard of them.

How dare they match our meaningless gesture with one of their own!

It's odd.  When I first heard of the safety pin thing, I supported the overall sentiment, but on the whole I considered it unnecessary and kind of silly.

But when I hear the sentiment itself derided, it makes me believe that it may be more necessary than I initially thought.

At the moment, I can't see myself wearing one.  But considering I had a rainbow flag bumper sticker on my car for 12 years, I can't rule out the possibility that I find myself forced to change my mind.
