well goes to show running moderate heros is always a terrible move.

Wow, so you really think that every single Democratic senator should have the exact same beliefs and policies, and every single Republican senator should have the exact same beliefs and policies.

There are more Republican than Democratic states, and Democrats do pack themselves in small geographical areas. The party needs some moderates or pragmatic members to have a house or senate majority, sorry.

That being said, this race was always  going to be competitive. Bayh has not won an election since 2004 and has been out of office since 2011.

There's a difference between a moderate and a moderate hero.

A moderate has legitimate middle-of-the-aisle political beliefs, i.e. Colin Peterson or Ileana Rod-Lehtinen.

A Moderate Hero will roadblock and water down every piece of legislation his party produces, just for the sake of telling voters that he stands up to leadership and not get certain interest groups after them i.e. Evan Bayh, Joe Lieberman, ect.
