SirNick, Scourge of the North, is a blackmailing terrorist. We need to actually criminalize blackmail, so I went and actually did it.

Also I have a CJO nomination who will be announced when Talleyrand swears in.

It is very sad that you proposed and signed a bill that treats the CJO as a prosecutor.  As I told you when you proposed the bill, the CJO is NOT a prosecutor, but a judge.

Now, you've created a crime that has to be prosecuted by the CJO.  Who is going to hear the case?  There is no impartial Northeast judge to hear it.  Are you expecting charges be filed before the Altasian Supreme Court?  They could - and should - refuse to hear a case that is solely based on Northeast law.  So your new law is unworkable.

Also, no regional government has the power to ban voting in a regional election.  Federal law is supreme when it comes to voting rights.

Yes, that seems to be an oversight that I forgot to carry over when you amended the SirNick is a Terrorist Act. Considering the rapid pace that the Assembly is going at, I have full confidence a fix will be brought up soon.

I sent proposed language to Representative Winfield for a fix.

Like I said, though, I don't think we can ban someone from voting in regional elections.  There is an old court case involving the South's attempts to put different requirements for voting in regional elections than the federal ones.  The Atlasian Supreme Court held that they couldn't do so.

Also, while it's probably not your intent, a regional court can't ban anyone from holding federal office.  The "at any level of goverment" clause at the end of the law can't mean that.

Awesome. Consider my version a placeholder for until he introduces it.

Vetoed.

While this bill is a good idea in principle, the language in it actually requires, by law, for interns to be paid the minimum wage. Therefore, I must veto it for the same reasons that Matt and pikachu outlined - it denies businesses the freedom to choose to pay their interns more than the minimum.

Under no circumstances should we be allowing the previous age-of-consent reform to exist, so I'm glad this bill finally got passed.

I'd also like to express my disgust at certain parts of the conservative movement for successfully taking this bill hostage to try and get their agenda passed (specifically setting a minimum age for porn). The concern about, say, a small child purchasing pornography, is irrelevant. As I've said before, despite there not being a purchase age, the owner still has the right to refuse to sell pornography to any children. My legal team and I have put our heads together, and we've decided that no self-respecting store would sell a Playboy to a ten-year-old, not because of age discrimination, but because no business would want to be known as "that place that sells porn to five-year-olds". You won't see a spike in depravity or our small children becoming Little Hefners or Flynts because of this bill - it just cuts away the red tape and legalese that businesses have to go through.

Meanwhile, while certain members of the right were holding this bill up, a far greater concern went overseen: under the previous law, sixteen-year-olds can legally have sex with people as young as twelve years old. That's right - a sixteen-year-old can technically have sex with a girl who hasn't even menstruated yet, and it can be legal because of the "age gap" loophole. The point is that somehow, the big-government right killed a bill to help lock up nonces because they wanted me to keep a law on the books that businesses already will follow anyway. I applaud this Assembly for governing with pragmatism and sense, and not blind ideology.

Normally I wouldn't sign this because there wasn't a majority of yeas, but there are blatant constitutional concerns.

I will be appointing DKrol to fill in Blair's seat. While we have had spats in the past, I believe that he is qualified to represent our great region, and I believe he will do well in this role.

Just curious,
The NE laws have been amended??? Because before, if I recall correctly, the governor was forced to appoint a representative from the same party.

Yes, the laws have been amended.

May I ask why you have chosen not to respect the will of the voters by not appointing a Laborite?

Not entirely sure why a Mideasterner is so concerned with an appointment in the Northeast, but I'm happy to explain. I made a personal promise to DKrol, and I am a man of my word.

Because I made a personal promise to DKrol, and I am a man of my word.
What about the coalition partner you're throwing under the bus? What about the will of the NE voters to get elected 2 Labor members in the assembly? Doesn't it matter at all for you?
It's funny you question my commitment to our coalition, considering you made vicious private attacks towards the key member on our side to making it succeed. It's also funny that when Turk and I called you out on it, you doubled down and decided to attack my party (that you are a coalition partner with, whether you like it or not) as a whole as an "inactive party". Despite DKrol's appointment:

*the left still has a majority in the Assembly
*literally every other active Northeast Laborite is already in office

I'm also puzzled why I'm getting lectured by a Mideasterner on how a three-week appointment is a slap in the face to the voters of the Northeast.

Because you "lectured" me about that. So I find that funny you're not even able to "respect" the coalition partner.

And please, "vicious private attacks"? There is a difference between saying "oh some members of your party are inactive", and the attacks you made against me, implying that I made some bad comments about the mental health of one the member of your party. So please, use the good "adjectives" without overreacting next time.

Because my party is weakened because of your move, so I'm directly concerned. And yes, the voters elected 2 NE Labor for the session. 3 week in a legislature are a lot.

Yes, I did lecture you on attacks, because starting (and continuing fights). You seem to have a chronic ability to start conflicts with TPP over nothing and continue it to the point where you cause people in the coalition to reconsider their partnerships with you. Not to mention that when people respond to your attacks, you decide to do your best Jesus-on-the-cross impersonation and talk about how other people were attacking you or your friends, or how you got attacked on some old issues.

Specifically, you told BaconKing, straight up, "You were an inactive Senator, you are an inactive Senator, and you will be an inactive VP", when trying to encourage him to be elected. That's a vicious attack. you also straight-up said that "TPP was an inactive party". Definitely not vicious, but surely unwarranted. As for my attack on you? I've admitted that was a vicious attack, but unlike you, when I say nasty things, I man the f**k up about my business and I apologize - like I did when you first brought that up. You should try it some time. You know, make friends, influence people, all that jazz. And actually not piss people off to the point where they publicly threaten to pull out of the coalition you helped negotiate.

So don't even begin to question my commitment to the coalition, because you're the sole reason that it's dying.

Well, are you talking about yourself? I was asking you why you didn't appoint a NE Labor member and the only thing you did was attacking me about a thing made last month.

Wrong again!

I just said that I appointed DKrol because I am a man of integrity, and I had already lined him up for an appointment when he lost the election in February. You didn't like this, so you decided to question my commitment to working with you for trying to keep a promise I made to someone, and I just decided to question yours in return.

You don't want people to question your commitment? Put your problems aside and work with everyone in it. It's why the Northeast is the best region in the world.

I criticized your decision of appointing Dkrolga because it did cost a seat for my party for 3 WEEKS.
And you tried to defend yourself by attacking my record. So this is basically what you're reproaching me, you know, when criticized, overreacting and answering by critics.

A seat that you are not entitled to. The people elected Blair, not Labor.

The people elected Blair, a member of the Labor Party.

So by your logic, since Duke and I voted for Griffin in the special election, we would vote for any Laborite over our any TPPer to succeed BK, and since Talleyrand gave Pikachu a 1st preference, he believes TPP is the best party to govern the Assembly.

See how fycking ridiculous that sounds?

Either way, I am a man of my word, and my word after the April elections was that DKrol was first in line. With all due respect to the Labor Party, my word is more important than any marching orders, especially when those orders and condemnations come from outside my region.

sawx: in all reality, you should've appointed a laborite, since the good people of the northeast did vote for two liebors

I would have if there were Laborites to appoint.

It's a tough situation, and I shouldn't have promised someone an Assembly seat, but it is what it is.

As for an apology, when Windjammer accepts mine for accusing him of exploiting BK's mental health troubles, and when he apologizes for attacking our party, taking remarks my allies have made out of context to try and make me look bad, and cuts the Mideast-style politics of brinksmanship out, I'll be glad to apologize for attacking him.

But as of now? The only thing I did wrong was make a promise I shouldn't have.
