Is Ed Mangano (Nassau County Executive) a credible GOP challenger to Gov. Cuomo? I believe he is because he would be a major threat in Long Island.  Your thoughts?

Thread Title changed to reflect that Ed Mangano isn't running and that Rob Astorino is (and is the only GOP candidate).

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/astorino-picks-chemung-sheriff-christopher-moss-run-lt-gov-article-1.1791260

Rob Astorino has chosen Chemung County Sherrif Christopher Moss as his running mate. Moss who will become the first African-American to run for Lieutenant Governor on the GOP ticket in New York, has been an outspoken critic of the SAFE act, calling its strengthened ban on assault weapons unenforceable and unconstitutional. His selection comes after rumors of other potential choices such as Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis and Assemblywoman Jane Corwin, turned down Astornio.

One GOP leader said that the ticket provided "Good geographic balance".

The selection of Moss was the last item on the to-do list for the State GOP, which while still expected to lose by a wide margin, is more united than they were in 2010.

In addition to Astorino and Moss, the expected nominees at the New York State Republican Convention (Which began today) are;

Former George Pataki Aide, John Cahill (Attorney General)

Onondaga County Controller Robert Antonacci (Controller)

Why is it so impossible to elect a Republican in NY under any circumstances now?  In 1994, Pataki really wasn't a top tier candidate.  He was a little known State Senator from Putnam County.  And he beat Mario Cuomo.

Why would they want to? Andrew Cuomo is governor.
Really what they should have done was cross-endorse him (They can do that in New York) ... which would eliminate him for contention for future office as a Democrat (because today's politics are that partisan).

Certainly a long shot, but given the recent corruption questions surrounding Cuomo, is it possible that Teachout could have a better-than-expected showing in the primary?  I'm not suggesting she wins, I think that would require an upset even greater than Cantor's loss, but what if she gets around 40% of the vote, that would be very significant, I would imagine, in the GE, but I suppose Teachout voters would never back the Republican...

Actually given Cuomo's ethics issues, I wouldn't be surprised if Teachout won... The problem is she wouldn't beat Astorino in a General election.
