But of course, "Republicans fall in line, and Democrats fall in love." so maybe it does make sense for the D polls to be more shaky.

Haha, it's one of my favourite sayings about the two parties. Along with: "When you give Republicans bad news they want to kill you; when you give Democrats bad news they want to kill themselves."
Again, completely true, though I don't really understand it as much as the other quote. Maybe it's out of a sense of denial verses a sense of failure, or the Republican not believing that the news is happening verses the Democrat not believing the news might get better over time. All I know is that we saw a LOT of both last year
