yes he did.

but it was probably a publicity stunt.  he was still running for governor in the democrat primary well into the 1980s.

i think george wallace endorsed jackson in 88.

faubus was a complicated fellow.

sure his actions with little rock central high school were reprehensible. 

but one should judge him by his entire life.  i think he exploited the race issue for political purposes, much like wallace.

i cant really say if he was a racist himself.

I was surprised myself when I learnt that some months back. Maybe Faubus and Wallace endorsed Jackson's candidacy in 1984 and 1988, so they were making up for the mistakes they both made in the past.

I was surprised myself when I learnt that some months back. Maybe Faubus and Wallace endorsed Jackson's candidacy in 1984 and 1988, so they were making up for the mistakes they both made in the past.

or more likely they started to rely on blacks as part of their voting base in the 1980s.  they were both opportunists rather than racists (which is worse is open to debate.)

wallace publicly apologized for his actions.

so far as i know faubus always insisted he had no regrets for what he did.
