Title: Dmitry Medvedev resigns

Interestingly, on the same day it is reported that Vladimir Putin plans to make wide-ranging constituional reforms, specifically reducing the power the power of the President in favour of the Prime Minister (which was seen by some as a sign that term-limited Putin plans to take over Medvedev's position as prime minister in 2024 again):

Does this mean Lavrov, Shoigu, and friends are effectively out for the time being?

That comes as a surprise. I wonder what's behind it? Putin pledging for more democracy in Russia sounds suspicious.

Appears all of the ministers have also resigned. I don't know jack about Russian politics so I'm unsure whether Medvedev resigning triggers all of this or if there is more to it:

Quote
The entire Russian government has resigned just hours after President Vladimir Putin proposed sweeping changes to the country's constitution, according to reports. The TASS news agency, which is owned by the Russian government, reported Wednesday morning that Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his ministers submitted their resignations to Putin. The agency said Putin thanked Medvedev for his work and said the outgoing prime minister would be installed as deputy of the presidential security council. Medvedev said he resigned to give Putin space to carry out the changes he wants to make to the constitution. Earlier, Putin proposed changes that would limit the power of his successor if he steps down in 2024. That has been interpreted as a hint that Putin intends to take on a strengthened role as Russia’s prime minister or in the government’s state council. Under the current constitution, Putin should step down as president in 2024 after serving two terms back-to-back.

Russia's new PM: Mikhail Mishustin, Director of the Federal Tax Service since 2010.

Kind of a weak, no-name bureaucrat figure.

Didn't see this one coming. Maybe Putin aims to strenghten/give more legitimacy to the prime minister because he wants to take the position again in 2024 when he's term limited? And again have Medvedev as place holder president?

If we wants to swap places, why not to just keep Medvedev?

Looks like Medvedev was in on it

Russian State Media trashed the Ministers but praised Medvedev, I think they're doing another switcheroo.

Kind of creepy when popular memes become actual reality.

Medvedev is Putin’s heir. There’s no way he gets kicked out permanently.

Why doesn’t he just abolish turn limits? The whole President to PM to President to PM again shuffle seems pretty unconvincing. Smaller players on the world stage have made more open power grabs before, so why can’t Putin?

Maybe it's just Putin's way of trolling us. He does seem to like trolling people.

Maybe because Medvedev is very unpopular in his current position?
