A law would have to be passed that changes COPPA.

Yeah, my understanding is that its only that kids watching a video for adults can make that video be deemed a children's video for advertising preferences purposes, not that adults who watch kids videos are deemed kids and forbidden from watching videos for 18+ people. At all. From the end user POV, nothing changes other than that videos that are "For Kids" cannot employ any sort of tracking things, so no cookies or targeted advertising. From the CONTENT CREATOR perspective, a ton is changing, but from the consumer POV, the main difference you'll see is that channels aimed at children will suddenly stop being profitable and, presumably shortly thereafter, will start to go the way of the dinosaur. This will have knock-on effects on the rest of Youtube (much of the site's revenue comes from idiot 9 year olds watching the same 10 videos a hundred thousand times in a row). |
