In 1916, while winning reelection, Woodrow Wilson lost the state he was Governor of by 12%.  Why?

Well considering the fact that New Jersey was a hugely republican state at the time, the fact that he "only" lost by 12 is a pretty good sign that he was actually pretty popular there
