Title: 14 Young Democrats to Watch (NYT)
Post by: RogueBeaver on June 25, 2016, 06:23:16 PM
Frank Bruni's selection of young Dem talent. (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/06/24/opinion/sunday/14-young-democrats-to-watch.html?_r=2&smid=tw-share) Personally, Moulton's my favorite Dem & I like Kennedy. Among the red-staters, only heard of Buttigieg and Castro, and never understood Castro hype.

Buttigieg sounds impressive. Very unfortunate name, though.

I met Andrew Gillum at TCC a few months ago. Doesn't strike me as anyone advancing anywhere beyond the State Legislature despite all the hype.

What a depressing list of bland neo-liberals.

Could someone explain to me the Moulton hype? I like the guy and all, he's a decent representative, but what makes people think he's a rising star before he's even finished a term.

Gabbard, Kennedy, and Murphy are the only ones with a possible future, but Murphy isn't going to be advancing thanks to rubio

Yeah they forgot the part where she's pissed off a major part of the Democratic coalition and made it impossible for young people who just graduated with teaching degrees to get a job in the state.

Keep your eyes on Rep. Hakeem Jeffries. He's from Central Brooklyn, which is now the black political power base in New York City. I could see him either running for Senate in 2022 if Schumer retires, or if criminal justice reform gets passed into law soon, he could be a presidential contender in the 2020s. I don't see him running against Mayor De Blasio for mayor in 2017.

Julian Castro
Tulsi Gabbard
Joe Kennedy
Seth Moulton

Only ones with a future in national politics, maybe Garcetti.

Adam Edelen is better than all of these losers combined.
He doesn't currently hold elected office, and lost his bid for reelection.

Pete Buttigieg will be the Governor of Indiana someday, most likely in 2024.
