Title: Maine in 1976? Post by: Sumner 1868 on December 01, 2015, 02:44:01 PM Jimmy Carter came quite close to carrying Maine's electoral votes in 1976. Ford got 48.91% of the vote to 48.07% for Carter, and Eugene McCarthy's 2.25% likely threw the state. Looking at the state's 1980s patterns, it seems he overperformed. Why did Carter do so well in the state?
