Title: Maine in 1976?
Post by: Sumner 1868 on December 01, 2015, 02:44:01 PM
Jimmy Carter came quite close to carrying Maine's electoral votes in 1976. Ford got 48.91% of the vote to 48.07% for Carter, and Eugene McCarthy's 2.25% likely threw the state. Looking at the state's 1980s patterns, it seems he overperformed. Why did Carter do so well in the state?

I've read before that Muskie (the first prominent Democrat to speak of from Maine) campaigned pretty hard for him.
