Nah.  He can overcome the cat-killing and abortion-profiting things.  I mean, people elected a man who intentionally lowered the standards for protecting the environment, gave a mentally disabled person the death penalty, ran up the deficit, sent us to a war for a reason that was later disproven, destroyed our economy, exported jobs, is doing little to help the immigration policy of the USA, is trying to destoy SS as we know it, appointed extreme right-wing judges, does nothing about the costs of health care for average Americans, gave us the greatest piece of legislation ever: the Patriot Act, and completely ignores the separation of church and state.  That's just the tip of the iceberg.  So, if his proven record is all of this and more, Frist can DEFINITELY win the 2008 election.

Add in that he's a not only a senator (which history has shown can be a terrible asset to a candidate), not only a Senate Majority Leader (ask Bob Dole why this makes it worse), but won't even be a senator by 2008 (he announced he'll stand down in 2006).

Bayh has a good chance.  I think his governing style and common sense approach will play out well in Iowa.  If he is the only moderate in the running he will do well in south and midwest.  Plus, he has a solid fundraising base.  Same thing goes for Warner.  He can bankroll his own campaign and has a solid fundraising base.

President John F. Kennedy.  He's already dead for some 40 odd years,  too bad he died in office.

What? You want me to back up this assertion? Well, okay
before Washington became president, there were eight other presidents who served for one year under the Articles of Confederation.  The first being Samuel Huntington.  This would make up for 8 previous, the ninth was a man who swore in for the president and was president for one day before (I think it was Zachary Taylor) got to the White House.

I think the question that was meant to be asked was "Name the 53rd president".  I honestly don't know, hmm let's say George Allen.  Since none of us can predict the future, my guess is as good as yours.

"Chris".

I have no idea who will get elected as the 44th president, but I just named the 44th president. :)

Warner, Bredesen or Richardson. Take your pick.

There's no doubt in my mind, it's gonna be Russ Feingold or John Kerry. I guarantee it.

Russ Feingold probably won't even run thanks to his latest divorce, and John Kerry is quickly becoming a has-been.  Chances of either winning are miniscule at best.

John Kerry's new universial child healthcare bill called "Kid's First" will definatly keep him in the headlines, and I don't believe Russ's odds aren't effected by his divorce.
I have much faith in my favorite candidates.

The fact that nobody said Obama shows that it is not so easy to name the Republican nominee in 2012.

Yeah, for all we know, it could be Jim Risch.

President-elect Mark Sanford

Even for 2005 that was a pretty stupid prediction.

The 44th President of the United States will be......

()

Senator Allen's the ideal candidate for the Republican Party to nominate in 2008. He's been successful in both all three of his political ventures as Congressman, Governor and as Virginia's current Junior Senator, who is the overwhelming favourite to defeat Jim Webb, most likely by fifteen points. Did I say he's never made a gaffe, nor will he ever? Watch out Hillary, this Reagan Crusader is coming to steal your crown!

I would have said Hillary, but wow. Some of these choices are funny looking back on. I'm sure the things we say now will be funny years from now too.

One question - why did Sanford have so much buzz around here back then? Was it just a bandwagon thing or was there something more substantial that I'm unaware of?

The House and Senate, however, will remain firmly in GOP hands.

Or not...

Nah, Phil's a bit too young for me.

I'm still on the sex offenders register. It's probably not worth the risk.

However much that offer is tempting I'm afraid I have to pass. Maybe next April when I get the all clear.

its unbelievable how much things have changed since then In 04 and 05 you weren't considered normal and where considered un patriotic if you weren't a neo con.
now we have a somewhat liberal black president elect from illinois named Barack Hussian Obama. that was unimaginable back in 2004, its so weird how much things have changed.

the Republicans where in rare form back then LOL now this site is full of liberals.

More amazing to me that no one said Obama is that no one said George Allen

Anyway, in 2005 I would have guess Bill Owens or George Allen

That sounds odd. Maybe it was stated elsewhere. Someone had to have said it. Allen was a very popular choice back then. In fact, he was my second choice. Thank God he screwed up that Senate race instead of waiting to ruin our chances at the Presidency (if he was the nominee).

I don't know yet. Whoever succeeds Obama will be 44th. Depending on how his term goes it could be Romney or the second coming of Clinton.

My gut tells me the former, if not from incompetence then due to the sheer enormity of what we're going to face the next 4 years.
