Title: IL-PPP: Quinn tied with all
Post by: RogueBeaver on November 26, 2013, 08:59:09 AM
Leads Rauner by 3 but trails Rutherford by 2, among other things. (http://images.politico.com/global/2013/11/25/ilresults.html) 60/33 disapprove.

So, Quinn hasn't made any progress with his approval ratings.

They are still in the dumpster ...

But despite this, Republicans manage only a 2-point lead at best.

But, Quinn is in trouble ...

On the plus side, Dan Rutherford is only 5 points behind the best possible candidacy, so there we go. A little surprised he does better than Dillard, but still.

This happens with machine politics -- people eventually get horrible politicians but few reliable means of getting rid of them. This is a mirror image of Texas, Kansas, and Georgia in which Republicans have awful governors who can be defeated only if people get desperate. The Democrats mercifully have few states in which such is possible.

The machine politicians use political patronage to win support from well-heeled contributors who then sponsor the re-election of their political benefactors. The public gets $crewed.

It's not that people like Quinn

It's that the GOP candidates are THAT BAD

This will be a race with millions and millions (expecially if Rauner is the GOP nominee) dumped into it to try and motivate the other side to stay home.

When push comes to shove, if the Dems get their Cook County turnout machine going like in 2010, they'll have a very good chance of squeaking by.
The GOP has no where near any kind of turnout machine like the Dems do and in 2010, they were caught flat footed.  They probably wont be this time around, but they still don't have the kind of operation the Dems do.

Heck, Quinn may win it this time carrying only 1 county out of 102 versus 4 in 2010.

GOP is quite horrible with 60/33 approval ratings! This looks like another close 2010-like race.

Guys, it is important that these are being entered correctly.  It's taking me a lot of time to go through and correct the bad entries.

Inks, can you check out the MS-Sen poll, too? (https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=182669.0) The numbers entered (https://uselectionatlas.org/POLLS/SENATE/2014/polls.php?action=indpoll&id=28220131117108) don't match any of the poll's toplines.

Patrick Quinn has the dubious record of enacting a draconian income tax. That draconian income tax will of course expire if the people vote correctly in the 2014 elections.

The people will soar to the polls to deliver a good thrashing.

Should Rutherford win nomination I would agree but he is trailing Dem favored tea party candidate Brady.

Something went wrong when I tried to edit it, so I had to delete it and start over, but it's fixed now.

One poll showed Brady in favor. I have my doubts about him receiving the nom again.

As for the other candidates: I think Rutherford is probably most likely, though Rauner seems to have the financial well being to do battle. Dillard would have a stronger shot with more conservatives fighting amongst one another, but seeing as that is not the case, it's a hopeless campaign.

Update: Turns out, Rauner's money advantage is starting to have a distinct effect on the primary, leading Brady by 7, with Rutherford at 14 and Dillard at 10 (yikes!).

I'm hoping Hynes gets in on this primary action.

Dan Hynes is out of it politically. 2016 senate race will have Lisa Madigan in it should Hilary run for prez or a lesser known challenger if Hilary doesn't. Hilary will get Schumer who is involved with DSCC recruitment get her to run.

The IL GOP is a really sad state of affairs.

"Governor of Illinois" is the most snake-bitten office in America. The Governor's mansion seems to have a trap-door to a prison cell.

You'd think the fact that Quinn is staying out of prison would make him more popular than most Illinois governors.

Maybe that's what makes him so unpopular?  Any Illinois governor worth his salt would be in prison right now.

That's dumb logic. Republicans won the IL senate race just four years ago, an ostensibly even more partisan race.
