Title: Any ideas where both parties will hold there conventions in next two decades? Post by: heatmaster on October 21, 2013, 09:51:07 AM Parties seemed to be setting there eyes on reliable sites like Kansas City, Missouri for GOP in 2016, not sure of Democrats. So what about the future, say 2020, 2024, 2028 and 2032. Any hunches?

Either party has good reason to come here, Columbus in particular due to a great job market by midwestern standards. Also its the only metro area in Ohio that's experienced any kind of consistent growth. As for 2020 and beyond, I think the GOP should look at Pittsburgh and Minneapolis while the Dems should look at Atlanta and Phoenix.

Kansas City is the clear frontrunner for the 2016 RNC. On the Democratic side, it's more of a muddle, though I think Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and St. Louis seem to be the cities most seriously considering it. Could be others as well, I don't know. Cleveland tried for the DNC in 2012 and didn't get it, so they might try again. But they've been rather quiet so far. Post by: heatmaster on October 23, 2013, 12:17:52 PM Everybody seems to be in agreement on Kansas City for GOP in 2016, hardly unlikely St. Louis will be a picked for Dems under the circumstances, as holding convention in two different cities but in same state is unusual and highly unlikely. Philadelphia or Minneapolis are more realistic, my money is on Minneapolis. But lets focus on 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032 and 2036 (That's what was my meaning behind next few decades!)

If you think about it, it's the largest city to never have a convention. Brooklyn has a state of the art arena with ample hotel space and easy transportation. Plus, it's the coolest place in America right now.

It's just that as a byproduct of America's deeply polorized politics, the red-blue divide, makes virtually unlikely. In other words it ain't gonna happen. The closest to such an event occuring, would be for the Democrats to opt for St. Louis, as Republicans are on the cusp of going for Kansas City also in Missouri. The years that both parties went for the same city, has not been a common practice. It occurred in 1932 (Chicago), 1944 and 1952 (Chicago) again.

I also think we are do for a run of small but mighty cities for conventions: Columbus, Cleveland, Buffalo, even a bid from Detroit (don't laugh-an excuse for massive re-building and clearling), Indianapolis. Smaller venues may be a bit cheaper and more willing to cater to the Conventioners. I wouldn't even rule out an experimental cyber-convention of sorts at some point.
