The towns around North Arlington in the map above went for Mccain in 08. But in November they went Obama. What happened in NE NJ? We often think of the shift from 51% R to 51% D as if it were more significant than any other shift of 2% of the vote elsewhere on the spectrum.
At a glance, I think the biggest swing was in Palisades Park, which went from just under 60% Obama in 2008 to about 67% Obama this year. Palisades Park is also the most heavily Asian town in Bergen County (Korean, almost entirely). It does look like there were huge swings in the Asian-heavy areas in SE Bergen and to a lesser extent in the Northern Valley. If someone supplied me with a base map, I'd do a precinct-by-precinct or town map of Bergen County. |
