Title: Something weird about Adlai Stevenson
Post by: A18 on January 11, 2005, 07:57:10 PM
Is the Adlai Stevenson that ran for president in the 50s related to the Adlai Stevenson that was Cleveland's runningmate in 1892?

I think that the elder Adlai Stevenson was the 1952 and 1956 candidate Adlai Stevenson's father.

There have been a long line of Stevenson's in Illinois history.

All Adlai Stevenson's, as this button for Adlai Stevenson the III shows () the Stevenson's have had a long line of Governors in Illinois.

Adlai the III refused to run with his elected Lt. Gubernatorial running mate in 1982 because he was a member of Lyndon LaRouche's cult. He then ran under the Independence Party and chose his own running mate. The new ticket was recognised by the Illinois Democratic Party.
