If Goldwater wins the 1968 GOP Nom 68 with McCarthy getting the Dem Nom, would the Dixiecrats still go Independent or do they support Goldwater? What would the map look like and what would the PV look like. (say Rocky gets the 1964 GOP Nom)

Goldwater felt strongly that civil rights should be handled at the state and community level, with no federal involvement.  As such, I don't think the Dixiecrats would have a problem with supporting him, and Wallace would probably stay out as well.  Goldwater wins easily against McCarthy.

Maybe Reagan could win by that much against McCarthy but even then I highly doubt it and hes far more charismatic than Goldwater and unlike Goldwater is a Governor from the biggest state in the union.

I think Goldwater wins but PA MD HI MI all would go Dem for sure

1. Although both men were viewed as extreme, McCarthy was probably considered the more extreme of the two.

2. Wallace likely stays out and his supporters mostly go to Goldwater.
