Lean R. Lynch was so popular and powerful politician in New Hampshire, that every potential Democratic candidate is just weak in pure comparison.

On a side note, Lynch has been Governor for almost eight years (four terms). So, retirement is hardly suprising.

NH is an interesting case. It appears as genuine swing state, very sensitive on nationwide trends (except, perhaps, of 2004, when Kerry carried it, while having a purely regional advantage).

On the other hand, there are solid remains of conservatism in New Hampshire. After all, this is a state that elected a freaking Bob Smith for two Senate terms.
