With tv and social media both on the decline, social media deplatforming discussion about politics, and people thinking that George Floyd hurt Democrats, are we going to have to wait for new types of media to be created and for people who remember George Floyd to die for the political engagement we saw in the 2010s to happen again?

Young People in America need Civics. Good quality civics education in the classrooms. That's what they need.

We are not losing anything if these morons on campuses disengage. The country and Democratic Party in particular can do much better than masked thugs spewing communist slogans.

I was hoping that we learned from that after the Bush era, but so far Democrats (perhaps older, more educated ones) still seem more poised to vote than other demographics. We may end up there when the Zoomers become a more important voting bloc. Although a lot will depend on who wins this year's election.

If Trump wins expect massive backlash once again that probably destroys the Republican Party for years. It would be history repeating itself.

Should Biden win, we may see that disengagement.

This was already happening. Just look at 34% turnout in the 2014 midterms. Trump came around and made politics interesting again and people started paying attention a lot more. But now it's going to be 9 full years since that speech on the escalator and it it the new normal. The hype has worn off and this is our new political reality.
