Christmas is a secular holiday in the US, but as pointed out above, it seems she tried to ban the secular aspects of it. Strange, but I suppose it's somewhat heartening that someone took a risk to oppose commercialism.

FWIW when I was growing up, my mom taught elementary school in a very low-income district and they prohibited Christmas-related paraphernalia/activities because there was concern that it would be really uncomfortable for the non-negligible number of kids whose families literally could not afford to celebrate Secular American Christmas (buy presents, buy food for a large dinner, etc). If your parents told you "Santa's not coming this year" and it's getting rubbed in your face every day at school, it can kind of sting.

This makes sense. I imagine this Elkhorn school is getting a bunch of attention because this is a well-off area in the TRUMP country of West Omaha (the Elkhorn area, specifically). Looking at the precinct map, it's around 60% TRUMP. These are the kind of people that would get overly upset about this and probably care about THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS. A poor area would have other, more important things to be concerned about instead. Like having a decent standard of living.

Also, shoutout to this thread already having Reaganfan pointing out the "crazy eyes" of those who oppose his agenda (bonus points for it being a woman), and LimoLiberal concern trolling about THIS being the reason we need Trump.

Well that sucks and it's very sad, but you don't punish 500 kids to make one feel better. Aren't you guys about "majority rule"?

You mean like when someone gets almost 3 million more votes compared to the next candidate?
Just asking, since you are counting people (kids).

The rules of Christmas aren’t enumerated in a constitution. But if you wanna be a grinch, take a hike up Mt. Crumpet and stay there til New Years

I will say that people are Christmased half to death.

Christmas is not how Jesus commended us to celebrate in remembrance of Him; that is the function of Communion.  "THIS (emphasis added) do in remembrance of me."  Every meal can feature Communion in remembrance of Him.

What Christmas has become is a ball of social and financial stress for millions of Americans   In that respect, I can understand that schools toning it down at Christmas has some merit.

Silly. I went to an incredibly diverse school district in LA County (ethnically and religiously) and no one was offended by Xmas stuff.

News Flash: 95% of Americans celebrate Xmas in some form. Most of our Xmas images and customs also have nothing to do with religion. A Xmas tree is a freaking pagan ritual anyway.

1970s Grinch was just a dick. That was Jim Carrey Grinch, and I dont think that part was included in the original book

It's weird when local stories are bigger here at Atlas (or nationally) than they are locally.

Currently praying for you and your loved ones, as the vicious Christmas Conflict of 2018 leaves Omaha descending into turmoil.

The Boris Karloff cartoon Grinch is the one who was true to the book.
