Vilsack is a Clintonista whore.  not that Obama seems to care about that.

Go with Herseth, Obama. Smiley

She might want the seat back when she's done, though.

Better than giving the Republicans a free House seat.

Dems would be unlikely to hold Herseth's seat.  Peterson's seat would certainly be a question mark to vote.  That seat probably voted for McCain by at least a few points and has done this sort of thing the last time it was vacated in the middle of a cycle.

Herseth would be fine for the spot and we'd get a House seat!

Peterson's seat would not be hard to hold. The DFL bench is very good with lots of strong candidates in the legislature, while most of the Republicans in the legislature in the area are mostly nutters. I refer you all to here: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=61179.0

It's probably more likely Peterson would be replaced by a more liberal Democrat than a Republican. Herseth is a bad move though.

Didn't you also call Paulsen a nutter [qm].  Smiley Anyway, any PVI R+4 open seat is a question mark in my book.

Not that I remember. Completely different type of district though. Plus most of the Republicans there are closer to Bachmann than Paulsen. Bachmann would never stand a chance in MN-03 or MN-07.

Obama is nominating a lot of sane Democrats, thank you Obama.

Hopefully Obama continues to nominate sane Democrats.

Hey I just remembered that Senate Minority Leader Marty Seifert is from MN-07. He has a pretty lousy job and would no doubt want to leave. Of course he also has a lot of baggage and is from the wrong part of the district.

I too would rather have him pick Vilsac. The Ag Secretary is not worth loseing a house seat over.

I very much disagree.  Our agricultural policy is in shambles and we need the best person possible to fix it.  I think if his pick does well it may win over alot of rural voters in 2012.

Well, it's good to be back. Smiley

People seem to ignore that while we may lose a house seat or governorship now, if the individuals selected are competent and can run their dept.'s efficiently, then maybe we'll pick up a good number of seats in 2010 or 2012 due to an effective Obama administration.

I don't care about one House seat.

What I do care about, however, is maintaining Democrat political mountains in these small states.  Once you're a one-person dynasty, you can win elections no matter how badly things get and have potential to become a senator or governor should the spot open.

If she was in some conservative district in CA or FL I wouldn't care.

I dont think Obama would want to embarass himself and his party by doing this, since Democrats would likely lose both seats in special elections.

Please take Jim Doyle... for something... Governor Lawton might hold the seat in 2010, Doyle is a sure loser.
