My opinion is that she is going to run, there are few doubts about that, she is extremely opportunistic and is very ambitious, now Murphy is a massively overrated candidate (like most fake moderate democrats) and I could easily see her doing even a bit worse than the other Murphy (Pat). Also it is laughable how she is describing her district, yeah FL-7 was a R leaning district, before 2016, but in 2016 the liberal FL Supreme court redrawn the map and FL-7 went from being a Romney district to a Obama one, and since then the district has moved even more to the left, Biden/Nelson/Gillum all won it by double digits despite losing the state, so the idea that this district is a microcosm of the state as whole is ridiculous.

Also I'm not sure what exactly her strategy is, she would run in a Trump carried state which has trended to the right and which is now 8 points to the right of the country, despite that she called ''republicans, a threat to democracy'', if you want to increase turnout among your opponents it is exactly the kind of words you sould use.

Depending on the primary she could never run as herself. She might have to tack (or come across at least) slightly to the left of her views in the primary and emphasise her Blue Dog status in the general, not that it would affect the result much. At least that's what her campaign manager told her.

Per Wikipedia, Marco Rubio has announced on Facebook that he will run again.

Can any Democrat make this competitive?

Debbie Wasserman Schultz or Corrine Brown

No lol

Debbie Wasserman Schultz would lose by 50 and I'd be right there voting against her.

As for Brown, she has too much baggage, including her felony fraud conviction.

Corrine Brown is a FL Dem-style bad outcome just waiting to happen, if she gets the nod for a statewide run.

Brown's legal troubles are why she lost her seat to Al Lawson in 2016. And during her time in Congress, she was one of the most ignorant and self-serving Representatives. I recall watching a YouTube clip of her infamous "Go Gators" speech on the House floor from about a decade or so ago. Her political career is finished, and if she were somehow the Democratic nominee, she would lose by close to double digits.

For what it's worth Al Lawson would be a (nowhere near as) bad nominee.

Izengabe is a mod on Red Racing Horses.  This is just trolling by some random Republican hack (and very lazy trolling at that).

Thanks, I'm not sure that makes it any better.

Impeachment Managers usually don't fare very well in Florida see Bill McCollum who was an Impeachment Manager in the Clinton Trail.

Was this a serious take or sarcasm? I agree that Demings wouldn't get much/any crossover support but that has to do with being a standard Democrat, not an impeachment manager.

Bc she's basically the antithesis (or closest) of a Democratic candidate could be to the GOP's talking points (defund the police, socialism, etc.)

Err.... Val Demings is a reliable liberal and literally served as House impeachment manager in Trump's impeachment trial. She’s very easy to paint as some out-of-touch partisan and would have close to zero crossover appeal in a GE. The idea that Republicans won’t be able to paint her as a career politician who embodies "GOP talking points" is ludicrous.

The only worthwhile attack the GOP has right now that made a difference was socialism and crime, not really 'career politician'. And Demings is clearly not a socialist, and her police record shows you can't hit her on crime, really.

To say she has 'zero crossover appeal' in the GE is ridiculous

I agree with you for the most part, but I disagree that this makes a difference. Demings can't just sit on her hands - she'll have to prove her non-socialist credentials, and even then many people believe all Democrats are socialists anyway, though granted most of those are Republicans.

Obviously not pertinent to the Senate race, but wasn't sure where else to put this. Murphy retiring:

There's a pinned 'generic recruitment/fundraising' thread at the top of the board. Thanks anyway.
