Just so you're aware, al Masdar is operated by the Assad government. They're not necessarily fake news, but they're a bad source to use on a story where there will be clear one-sidedness, and will play up regime advances, make the other side appear as jihadi-hevy as possible (not that they need much help in this particular fight). They also have really weird ads, I've found. Ashley Madison seems to be a major sponsor.

The Turkish invaders need to be kicked out of Syria and Idlib needs to be put under Assad-control as quickly as possible.

And send hundreds of thousands of new refugees into Europe? Many of whom have been radicalized by al Qaeda and friends? Interesting that you've changed your position in this regard.

Europe ?

They can go to Turkey too. Turkey is not Europe.

The Assad Army is making big gains in South Idlib right now, near the key city of Khan Sheikhoun:

At least part of it is on any definition.

What do you think will happen to the Kurds in Syria under Rojava after the Government defeats the rebels?

That's exactly what worries me the most, and why we should implement a no-fly zone over Kurdish territory like we did for their Iraqi counterparts after the Gulf War.  As well as arming and equipping them with the latest weaponry, particularly anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns.  It will make both Syria and (Russia-aligned) Turkey think twice before attacking them.

I find it interesting that people were having hope in 2011 about the rebels.

It was the middle of the Arab spring, 3 governments were toppled, and there was a call for a Libya-style intervention in Syria to overthrow Assad with the backing of an international coalition.

Do you think that Assad will try to hold him self out as a sort of great conqueror or military genius after the war?

I honestly doubt that. But he won't just hide behind the walls in Damascus.

I suspect that it’s Turkey Rojava should fear not the Regime. But if Turkey doesn’t crush them, Assad will likely negotiate a deal where the Kurds get some degree of autonomy. They’re simply a too useful future tool to be destroyed by the Regime.

100% agree   Hell, give 'em some (50 or so) last generation fighters and send a couple hundred of them through USAF flight school, we owe them at least 10 times as much.  Maybe a few hundred Abrams too.

The Arab Spring has unfortunately turned out much as I expected, a Middle East version of Europe in 1848.

The Syrian Army has taken full control of the Khan Sheikoun area and fully encircled a so-called Turkish „Observation point“ there, where the invading Turks keep providing assistance to the Al Qaida Islamist terrorists.

And they are also refusing to leave their observation point. Time to kick the invading Turks out of Syria and steamroll the rest of Idlib. Go Syrian Army !

Next up: Maarrat al Numan.

On that analogy however, we can perhaps hope for better news in the longer term?

There's always hope, just no reason that it must be better.

Copying from the Trump/Kurd thread in USGD - major ISIL attack appears to be underway in Raqqa.

Honestly, Bashar taking back all of Syria and giving the Kurds wide autonomy would be best for everyone.

Well, yes, there is logic in Trump's decision, Turkey is more valuable ally to USA than Kurds, but with bipartisan anti-Turkish coalition in both House and Senate Turkey still would be drifting toward Moscow-Teheran axis. Erdogan had endless talks with Trump in the past, it didn't stop US sanctions and exclusion Turkey from F-35 program. Probably it just has hold over point of ho return in USA-Turkey relations.

Disgusting.

The invading Turks need to be thrown back to where they belong and contained in their own territory.

Trump is throwing the Kurds under the bus.
