Steerage

I would like to note a revision to my earlier states, acctually... Opebo would probably survive, as he would travel First Class, and he woudl make sure he was one of the first people on a lifeboat.  Other than that, though, I think the rest of us are as good as dead.

Steerage

This site is rather interesting. It gives the ticket prices for the various cabins on the Titanic in both modern day terms and what they cost in 1912.

First-Class (parlor suite): £870/$4,350 ($50,000 today)
First-Class (berth): £30/$150 ($1,724 today)
Cost of a Second-Class ticket (one way): £12/$60 ($690 today)
Cost of a Third-Class ticket (one way): £3/$15 to £8/$40 ($172 to $460 today)

Couldn't find Steerage but it would probably be less than a $150 in modern day terms.

Repulican Class...

So the Suite were like chartering a private vessel while the regular first class tickets were like buying a cruise today while second class was like buying an airline ticket and third was like buying a train ticket and steerage was like buying a bus ticket.

I think most of us would have been able to afford second...maybe our parents first.

I mean, the typical suite passenger would make like $2 mill a year while the full priced cabin passenger would make $80,000 and the 2nd class passenger would make $35,000 and the Thrid Class would make $18,000 and the steerange passenger would make $12,000.

"Steerage" and "Third Class" are the same thing.

Actually, steerage is basically mailing yourself while Third Class was like a Motel 6(1 star motel) on the water, Second Class was like a Best Western (2.5 stars) and First Class was like a Hyatt(4 stars).

Does it really matter?  Unless we were amoung the reallt lucky first class men to get onto the boats before everyone realized the damn thing was sinking, we would all be dead... its just that some of us would be doing it trapped like rats kicking and screaming and some of us woudl be doing it with a Brandy in hand.

Hmm? About half of second class and a good three-quarters or more of first class survived.

No, second class was more like a Hyatt. First class was more like the Waldorf-Astoria.

Never heard of that. Probably like the Ritz-Calton or the American or Golden Tulip in Amsterdam.

Actually, for the time period, all of the "classes" were quite luxurious, relatively speaking.  Even third class was quite roomy and comfortable and the food was also quite good with things like Irish Stew a staple.  Sure, it wasn't filet mignon and escargot... but it wasn't stale bread either.

I'd say the preceding poster would be borderline 3rd/2nd class because of hte interpretations of hotels.

I'm showing my regionalism. It's a really famous and extraordinarily luxurious hotel in New York City.

My parents would probably have enough to afford a first-class berth or if not second class. And due to my age, i'd follow them Tongue

Probably first class berth or second class.

First Class Standard Room.... my in-laws would go Suite if my dad-in-law was having a manic attack or second class if he is depressed.

My parents would probably be second class state room because they perfer size over luxury.
