That's a thoroughly debunked myth. Anyways, inaugurations traditionally called for morning dress, and with that top hats, and JFK wore one.



JFK simply mirrored a trend. Alas, I honestly bemoan the three-piece suit more. Ford was the last to regularly wear them.
