I haven't taken any sick days in at least 5 years, maybe more.

Not every night, clearly.  I rarely get sick, but I come to work when I do, because I have to.

None so far, but I'm likely going to need to take some toward the end of the year for surgery. There's no shame in being sick if you actually are sick. I don't much care for the "tough" people who end up infecting the entire staff.

Does the use of allowed sick/vacation/personal days count?

I'm about to take some vacation time too. Screw Memphis in the summer. Worst weather ever. I'm super fortunate to be able to escape briefly.

Today is my first sick day since I was promoted over a year ago. I'm home, but still working remotely. Does that even count as a sick day?

I haven't missed any sick days in the past year.  We kept my son home maybe twice.  On those occasions we were able to work around it.  Me in the morning and my wife in the afternoon, something like that.  I think the last legit sick day I took was when I had that knee surgery about 3 years ago.  It was out-patient, but I suppose I took off the entire day, and maybe the day after.

I got sick maybe twice in the past decade.  Both times were due to streptococcus, probably picked up from my son who picked it up at school.  As I recall, they didn't really affect my schedule.  I just got my physician to order some azithromycin and took it over a few days and it was all better.

Apparently copious amounts of alcohol in various forms protects us from the sick monster Wink

I've never taken a sick day from work.  The last sick day I had in school was my Junior year of high school, I believe.

This sort of macho posturing from privileged suburban brats is pretty disgusting. You - and the pathetic middle management cocks you will all doubtless turn into - are enemies of decency, morality and all worthwhile forms of civilisation.

Hear hear!

As for me, I simply don't go, or leave, whenever I feel like it (outside of special/important/VIP guest type events).  I am, amazingly enough, at a civilized institution, if such a thing is to be believed possible in our vicious modern world.

We have a sign-in ledger, but I sign in for months at a time at one sitting, as does everybody else.

This thread is gross; I echo Al's sentiments.

I've missed many more than six days of school in the last 12 months, though usually because I'm tired or lazy or would rather stay home and watch soccer. Luckily I'm treated like an adult, rather than enslaved chattel, and no one cares.

I don't know what the digust is about, but this is another place where Lief is on totally different brain waves.

Though I have missed several days of school, partially because my sleep schedule sucks a dick even with melatonin.

Last one was back in 2008.  Not that I've never been sick since then.  Just that I've gotten sick when on vacation, and thus didn't miss any work.

School is different. You're there for your own benefit and no one else's.

Jeezus, man, you're far too young to be so bitter.  Still, I admire that you never compromise.  Compromise is a worded oft strewn about debates in my countries, and it's much over-rated.

As for the macho posturing, if we can't enjoy that privilege in the anonymity of a male-dominated forum with no convenient way for the readers to assess the veracity of our posts, then what's the point of its existence?

Not nearly enough. I did call in sick once to see a Municipal Waste show, however. Here's to feeling good all the time!

More than six. The culture at my work is understanding that sick days are for whatever you need them for, sick or not. In the past year I've taken sick days because the weather was going to be nice and I wanted to be outside. I've also taken days for being too stressed, or because I had to care for my partner. Other people have taken them because they had a hard time the day before.

This is correct. Although I have run into situations where I was actually ill and didn't have any sickies available, so I've been saving them up. After I have that safety net I'll probably take them normally. After all, summer is coming.
