Awesome!

In NYC you get weed delivered to your house, so having alcohol deliveries as well would be super convenient.

support, you should be able to sent alcohol through the mail. Plus it could help the post office where my dad works. Congress keeps trying to kill the post office, eliminate Saturday delivery.

I'm in.  Hell, I'll go back to snail mail entirely if they offer that service.  Tongue

Of course we should be able to mail booze!  It's good for us lushes, good for the USPS.

I understand the rationale behind wanting to scale back delivery to five days a week- the Internet has just killed demand- but I strongly disagree with making it Monday-Friday.  Eliminate Tuesday or Wednesday (with exceptions for rush packages like Express Mail). Leave the routes (as well as post offices) open one of the weekend days, to make sure that people who can't get to the station any other time can still be served.  Universal postal service is one of those things like rural electrification (and telephone/internet): we have an obligation to provide it to everyone, even and especially the areas where it's not cost-effective.

I didn't realize this wasn't already legal. I'd see no reason to oppose it.

I wish they'd just bite the bullet an hike the price of a stamp to, like, 60 cents. There's no need to subsidize the service to the point of bankrupting the USPS.

Lol!  What are you 80 and mail letters to your 30 grandkids all the time?

What people need to do is check out the prices for the wonderful privatized post offices around the world and then come back and explain to us what a raw deal the USPS is.

Anyway the alcohol thing is kind of dumb.  If Amazon can start selling booze cheaply it's going to seriously crimp local state taxes.  It's robbing Peter to pay Paul.  In all my travels around the US I recall walking into a Whole Foods of all places and buying a domestic bottle of win for three bucks including tax.  Where I live there is no deal like that.  You barely want to drink the "cheap" stuff that is three times that price.

A 14-cent stamp hike hurts you? Dude, how many letters do you mail in a year?

If a gallon of gas went up by 14 cents a gallon, then you would be fighting against oil companies making more profits though.

Why does that healthcare pre-funding mandate exist? To force cutting of the Postal Service?

As someone who first began driving when gas sold for $0.89/gallon, I can attest that I am hardly phased when gas prices creep up a couple cents these days.

My point was more that we shouldn't suffer for the inefficiency of the postal service.

The fact that I can give the Post Office a piece of paper and they'll take it all the way to Alaska for 48 (ish?) cents is pretty absurd when you think about it.

I don't think $1 would be an unfair rate at all.  Maybe they could go 50 cents in state, $1 out of state, and $2 to Alaska or Hawai'i.

Which specific inefficiency are you talking about? The post office is able to transport a letter from a location 3,000 miles away to your door for 46 cents. And it could do so at a profit, if it wasn't for the inexplicable 75-year prefunding requirement (and yes, that's the real problem) placed on it by a congress intent on killing and privatizing the service.

What else can you do with 46 cents nowadays? I can't even get a toy from the vending machines at the supermarket for less than 50 cents.

Ah yes inflation is killing us and that's why you can't get toys for less than 50 cents from vending machines. Higher wages cut profits which leads to higher prices and inflation is always the outcome. Now if only you could convince your congressman or party that higher wages are leading to inflation. See how you've opened up a new door to experiment with on your way to political enlightenment? Could we get you on board for the fair tax as well?

As for good deals, I bought a bunch of whoopee cushions at the dollar store. They were 6 for a dollar. Boy do I get people with them. Try whoopee cushions at your local dollar store maybe? Fart spray is another way to go if you're low on funds. Or you could use the whoopee cushion and then spray fart spray before blaming it on someone else. Regardless of political partisanship and party identification, farts are the key to human laughter. Farts are what bring us together and make us one. The world would be a much better place if we could just fart together for a few laughs. After all, we all fart in the same language.
