How much longer does John Kerry have secret service protection?  If he still has it now?

That must be kind of awkward. Do they hug or shake hands when they say goodbye?

Ummm, I'm not sure what you mean.  I'll take a guess and say you meant 2009.   If you are implying Bush will have to deal with losing secret service, no he won't.   President's and their wives have secret service protection for life.   Ford, Carter, Bush 41, and Clinton all still have secret service protection.

I think if they can afford to do so, they should foot the bill.  I mean, 5 or 6 speaking engagements a year should pay for it.  Is that too much to ask out of an ex-president?

Federal Law requires and mandates that Presidents and Ex-presidents get secret service protection they are REQUIRED and COMPELLED to accept it.

This is why Bush always went to campaign events on Air Force One, he would much rather flown in on a small and unimpressive little gulfstream or something <<ya right>>  but Federal law demanded that a huge lavish 747 complete with detachment of marines and secret service people be with him...

It wasn't Bush's choice.. really...
