Germany would be the most fair location. I wouldn't oppose that.

Except there was NO historical claim to Germany.  In Israel, there was a tangible claim.

Except there were plenty of other folks already living on the land. Maybe they should have tried Wyoming. Tongue

They could've probably carved away some remote part of Bavaria that would be larger in area than Israel currently is.

Most people who opposed the formation of Israel in 1948 were, in fact, opposed to it because they were hostile toward the Jews (and the same can be said of many who oppose Israel now, too).

No, of course not. It's too bad the British sold out so easily to terrorists.

Go away.

How was the King David Hotel bombing not an act of terrorism?

It was a military target at least and they warned them before hand. (I'm in no way defending the bombing)  It's still terrorism, but it's a lot less "terroristy" than say, blowing up an embassy because a news organization based in that country drew a cartoon you didn't like.  It's less "terroristy" than threatening to kill an author of a book you didn't like.  It's a lot less "terroristy" than killing an abortion doctor in the middle of church or firing rockets indiscriminately at population centers.

I feel I should reiterate that I think it was terrorism and was wrong.

Of course not, the artificial creation of nation-states only leads to problems, and the Palestinians deserved to keep their own state.

Silesia was depopulated of Germans anyway.

Yeah, cause living in the heartland of the peoples that just tried to remove your race from the planet sounds like a great plan!  Come on, even in hindsight this "better" idea sounds stupid.

Good thing then Israel was set up in a location where they get along with everyone and there's no wars or fighting ever!

We were trying to do this without hindsight I thought, did we know then that the Arabs were as anti-semetic as the Nazis?  Maybe we should have.  Their religious leaders certainly didn't hide from their collaborations with the Germans.

Think you're all missing the point. There was already a large Jewish presence in Palestine by this point (of course) and after the war it became a magnet for Jewish refugees. There was - by this point - no question of a Jewish state being established anywhere else.

I really fail to understand how anybody can be so blinded by his (legitimate) hate of current Israeli government to the point of denying them the right to exist. It's totally moronic. I've always hated Bush with a passion, but never wished that USA would never have been created in 1787.

Agreed Antonio. It's just to bad that those displaced weren't properly compensated.

So the groups of Palestinians, who opposed the creation because they would be displaced, were Anti-Semites?

Yeah, what a preposterous idea! Those jews that stayed behind in Germany were sooooo crazy.

It makes about as much sense as the creation of a state on the eastern seaboard here in the US.

Well, you have hindsight. I doubt in 1948 everyone thought that Germany was stable and de-nazified. According to Wiki only 10-15k Jews were in Germany at the end of WW2.

No, of course not.
The argument that the Jews deserved a country of their own does not excuse them taking this country from another people.

The zionists had been working the land even before 1948. Prior to all of those kibutz's the country now called Israel was just a pile of rubble with very few natural resources.
