Rep Chris Collins (R-NY) offered his thoughts and prayers to the victims of today's shooting and politely requested that people refrain from politicizing this tragedy.

Wait, no, he didn't.

The thing is, yes, escalated political rhetoric, dehumanizing your opponents, threatening them with violence is a problem and can lead to attacks like this. But will Collins draw any connection at all with other events of the last 18 months?

Bernie did promise revolution. This is what happens.

Bernie has never promoted violence or armed resistance or "second amendment remedies". He has focused on mobilizing voters in elections, although he's certainly demonized his opponents to do it.

If that's your view, than Trump is responsible for the stabbing in Portland.

Get out of here with that nonsense.
The guy from Portland was also a Bernie supporter so...

The guy from Portland was a mentally ill racist who made a racist attack on Muslim women on the subway that escalated into a mass killing.

That was also done by a Bernie supporter though...

When you have a prominent politician running around the country saying "we need a revolution" as well as other class warfare rhetoric, it is bound to be considered a call to action by some people. Not everyone agrees on what the necessary and appropriate form of action is, and you end up with things like this.

The Portland killing was done by a racist who hated Muslims and picked a fight with Muslim women on the subway. He wasn't instigating a people-powered revolution, he was attacking Muslim women and then killed their defenders with a knife.

You can see where this is going when you go to "prominent politician running around the country..." and what kind of statements they were making in 2016 and 2017 that aligned that with assaulting Muslim women.

That said, let's focus on this attack.

Sanders is going to make a statement about this on the floor of the Senate.

That's really horrible. Very unwelcome news. I hope he pulls through and has a good recovery.
