Not just some, but at least a significant fraction of the Senate Dems.  At this point, the debt ceiling increase has become too politicized for anything to pass the Senate without 60 votes.  I don't think we're going to meet the August 2 deadline, tho I do expect something will likely pass by the end of next week.

No, he'll invoke the 14th amendment.

No, he'll invoke the 14th amendment.

To do what?  If he issues debt in excess of the debt ceiling, he'll have committed an impeachable offense and deserve to be booted from office, tho I doubt that the Democratic Senate would convict him.  There is absolutely nothing in the 14th Amendment that could be construed as authorization for a President to decide when and how much to borrow.  The only reason we have a debt ceiling in the first place is that Congress delegated to the executive branch some of the details of issuing debt starting in World War I.  Until then, each and every issue of bonds required an Act of Congress to happen.

No. The balanced budget amendment is too much.

The government needs to be able to deficit spend as an option, whether it be war, depression, natural disaster, or other unforeseen circumstance. The idea of binding the hands of all future generations so that they can only run surpluses and never deficits is a radical and wrong idea. Obama should veto it.

It looks like those who said "yes" are going to end up being correct.

It would be irresponsible for him not to.
