Isaac Foot (father of the labour leader, Michael) said that you could judge a man by which side he would have supported in the Civil War.

I'd have supported the Parliamentarians without a doubt. Even for the faults of Cromwell, and the entire fracas of the aftermath, the cause was still much more righteous than fighting for the Stuarts.

It's interesting that both models of government would be disposed within 50 years
