So what's next for the Ontario Liberals after that catastrophic defeat? At some point they will have to through a process of renewal and a race for the permanent leadership. Will they pick one of their remaining caucus members, such as Michael Coteau or Mitzie Hunter and "make history" with a Black leader (their caucus is 2/7 Black). Could Yasir Naqvi run for leader and run in one of the two Ottawa seats that proved to be the "safest" for the Liberals? A federal MP go for it? Sandra Pupatello has also expressed interest - and she may have some appeal among two demographics that went to Ford big time in this election: 905 "blue" Liberals and Italian Canadians (though it's a tall order to make the Liberals competitive in Windsor again!)
Making one of the two Francophones resign to get Naqvi back in the Provincial Parliament would be hugely controversial in the French-Ontarian community.
