From Times Argus:

MONTPELIER — Former Lt. Gov. Doug Racine said Wednesday he is considering whether to run for the U.S. Senate seat to be vacated by Sen. James Jeffords, I-Vt., in 2006.

"For most of us in politics the idea of a Senate seat is intriguing," said Racine, who was a Democratic state senator and candidate for governor. "I can't rule it out."

I doubt this guy will garner enough support to sway the election, but hey, you never know.  POS.

That stinks. Hopefully he doesn't run.

That would be great news for the GOP. Take as many votes away from Sanders as possible.

Why can't we get this guy to run for Sanders' old House seat?  He'd probably win.

Seems like a good strategy to clear the field for himself for the House seat.

He knows he couldn't win the Senate seat, and the Dems would panic that the GOP could win it by default if he were to run, so in a compromise, they will clear the field for him for the House seat.  Clever.

If the Democrats fear to oppose a Socialist and don't even try for a Senate seat in VT, then looks like Zell Miller was right: A National Party No More.

We are definitely not Zell's party and don't want to be!

By the way, Sanders isn't really a Socialist. He once called himself a "small s" socialist like 15 years ago.

If elected, Sanders would support the Democrats in the Senate, as he has in the House, so even I think he should be given a clear run - I don't want a split vote letting the GOP in! The last thing you want is to see them entrench themselves even further. It's time to be pragmatic

The Democrats have nothing to gain from challenging Sanders, who is very popular among Vermontians.

Racine could be laying the decks for a House run and good luck to him

He brags about being a socialist on his website.

He was a big-S Socialist - a member of the party of Eugene Debs and Norman Thomas - a long time ago. As to small-s socialism, there's so many definitions around, most posters here fit one or the other.

Racine should just run for th House seat.  Even if Racine does run for the Senate, I doubt the Dems have much to worry about the GOP taking the seat.  Sanders just got 68% last year, even if Racine takes a decent chunk of that Sanders still wins (GOP candiadte Parke had 24% & dem candidate Drown had 7%)
