I don't support this.  The information students confide in their teachers/counselors should be protected from involuntary disclosure unless there is an immediate threat of harm or abuse.  Unfortunately, the problems facing LGBT kids do often cross into that territory. 

However, I do find it hard to believe that a student could be openly gay or transgender at school and the parents not know about it.  Parents should not expect public schools to do the dirty work of keeping tabs on their kids' budding personal lives.
