I can't support it as it stands, but I think that we'll able to work to improve this.

Aye

It's a good improvement compared to the original text and I support it.

Aye

It seems very sensible and a step in the right direction.

To be honest, I don't like the Act so much, but I still hope that we can work to improve it and so I'm working for an amendment at the text that'll be presented today or tomorrow.

This is my amendment. Probably all my changes are not shared by my colleagues, but I hope that it'll pass, in order to have a good start point.

Cris: If this amendment passes, will you vote in favor of the bill without any further changes?
Well... I think that my amendment is a step in the right direction. There are still some reservations, but with it the bill would be a lot more friendly than now.

I'm just trying to get a sense of where this debate is going. What specific sections of the bill do you support, if any?
As said, I don't like the entire bill, but I'm trying to improve it. I'm still not ready to vote for it, but it would be more friendly. Section 4 is the hottest of the bill and I can accept clause 1, 2, 9 (6 in my amendment) and 10 (7 in my amendment). Of this section, I don't like clause 7 (5 in my amendment). Looks like I forgot to remove it Tongue, but I'll present another amendment on this.

I mentioned Section 4 because it's the hottest Section and the most debated section of the text.
But I still don't like the entire bill (so also Section 2) and, as said, I'm still not ready to vote for it.
I'm working to improve it because if it'll pass (with or without my vote), it'll be better than now.
My ideal amendment would repeal the 90% of this bill, but I can't. Tongue
About 4.1 and 4.2. I'm not supporting these parts (can accept doesn't mean support). I'm not a fan of these parts and I'm open to change them.

I'm glad to see that the Vice President is so active and I hope he'll be involved in the debate of all bills in the future. Smiley

As said, I don't like the idea of the bill and there are still changes to make, but it's a step in the right direction.

I support Senator Talleyrand's amendment, because it removes awful parts of the bill.
But despite this, I still don't like Section 4 and I'll do the possible to improve it.

I think that Hagrid explained it better that I can do.
As pointed out by Polnut, we may not be constitutionally allowed to occupy this "territory".
I don't think we can telling cops what they should believe in their life. It's impossible and it's not right.
If a cop is racist but qualified, he can still become cop and we can't do anything for that. If a cop is racist but qualified, we can't throw him out only because of his beliefs.
All of us agree that racism, hatred towards gay people, sexism, ecc... are wrong. We can't telling people what they should believe in and we can't throw them out of their work because of their beliefs, but we can work in other ways, as legislative body, to demonstrate and spread the message that racism, hatred towards gay people, sexism, ecc... are wrong.
We can't judge the work of cops for their (wrong) beliefs, but we can work to change their beliefs. Not this way.

I obviously support the Senator Polnut's amendment.
Now, the bill is finally readable and not out of reality.

I'm ok with Polnut as the new sponsor and considered that he presented the amendment that changed it, it's the right thing.

Why are we voting on this? Who objected?
