Question: why wasn't the Fremont Future Party contesting elections? I don't believe that koopa changed her regional registration or stated anything about them not contesting. Is it because they're a one-person party?

I only just realized this

I don't think she expressed a will to actually contest the election, which is required of regional parties to be on the ballot.

Disappointed with the results of the Green Party. We somehow won 2% in California, and with all the extensive campaigning in Alaska only 3%.

I think Labor's attacks on you all in Alaska killed your momentum.

Since I got a couple of questions, wanted to confirm the September cycle starts on September 7th, there's still a week left. For now parties can confirm whether they're standing and in what alliances.

There should - ideally - be some Acta Publica updates related to the September cycle during the week.

The Burr System:
Formalizing a game system

As of today I have issued a number of GM directives (003 to 008) which formalize much of what I've been doing thus far with NPC elections, thus technically binding my eventual successor - not planning to leave anytime soon, just to be sure - until those directives are amended or rescinded. This to make sure this game mechanism ideally becomes a long term project that is hopefully sustainable after I'm eventually gone. They are the following:

Quote
Quote from: GM Directive #003
The Pontifex Maximus shall run NPC elections for the state and local governments of the Republic of Atlasia at the end of every month, based upon a public and previously determined calendar and schedule. This and subsequent directives regarding said elections will be legally based upon Article VI, Section 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Atlasia; and Section 3, ii. b of the Game Engine Reconstruction Act.

Quote from: GM Directive #004
The Pontifex Maximus shall maintain a thread for rules and results concerning NPC elections for the state and local governments of the Republic of Atlasia.

Quote from: GM Directive #005
State and local NPC elections shall be governed, both in terms of rules and results, via use of a formal game system. The system must consider grading methods for campaign materials, penalties and bonuses for different aspects, and its results shall be calculated by an unequal combination of three main electoral factors: player campaigning, registration and voter dynamics, and fundamental factors.

Quote from: GM Directive #006
The Pontifex Maximus shall implement the electoral methods and systems determined by the regions for NPC elections via appropriate legislation within reason, and will reserve the right to determine the level of detail based on his/her possibilities as an individual.

Quote from: GM Directive #007
The Pontifex Maximus will be allowed to offer limited feedback to players concerning NPC elections, ideally - but not exclusively - via a news article after every monthly set of elections. However, he/she will not be under any obligation to disclose the specific details of the "game system", campaigning marks, or any other info judged as sensitive. He/she will additionally be barred from preferential treatment in terms of disclosing information.

Quote from: GM Directive #008
The Pontifex Maximus, until this directive is amended or revoked, shall make use of the "Burr System" (created by LumineVonReuental) in terms of its "game system" for NPC elections. An appropriately censored version of the system will be made public at the earliest possible moment.

As you may be able to tell, there's a new detail which has been determined. After careful consideration, I've decided to formalize Version 1.0 of the NPC Elections into an actual framework and game system to be usable for future GM's. Most of it is essentially what is already posted at the start of this thread, but I make a commitment to publish a more comprehensive "manual" (with some parts redacted) to further enhance the formality of the process and hopefully make the process as transparent as possible. Additionally, this technically allows for a future GM to use a different system if they so wish.

After careful consideration, I've chosen to name this as the Burr System in honor of former Vice President Aaron Burr, one of the most important early pioneers of Atlasian (then American) electioneering and campaigning on account of his unprecedented efforts in the Presidential Elections of 1796 and 1800. Though I have my philosophical and personal disagreements with Vice President Burr, I find him a fascinating - if imperfect - character in need of some historical reexamination, and I believe his role as an electoral pioneer of sorts is worthy of some recognition even within a limited Atlasian context.

In a few hours I'll be opening campaigning for September, and if things go well polling will be made available today or tomorrow.

Hoping to get polling out today, but need to see how - and if - to factor the apparent Green collapse on it.

Potentially, yes. I'll roll the dice, and people can try and persuade some of those NPC's to switch off. It's still early though.

Great. Given so far the switches have entirely been deregistrations or to Labor, hopefully Labor gets the biggest boost. What is the NPC equivalent of a deregistration? The state legislators sitting as independents or a bunch of special elections?

There's no direct correlation in terms of de-registration, so you wouldn't see mass resignations. It just opens the door to party switches or becoming independents, the severity of it being judged via player action + dice rolls (of course, Green NPC's are obviously more likely to switch to some parties than others). Will probably - not certain - make the formal calculations close to the end of month, once there's greater perspective.

Obviously the latest events make it somewhat hard to know to how to proceed. Though I'm technically on a break, it's been somewhat difficult to decide on whether to release outdated polling or start from zero, which would require spare time I don't have.

For now I will release the polling which was meant to come at the start of the election and right before the Green collapse, which means it doesn't factor any campaigning or the fallout of the whole situation.

Problematic perhaps, but it really is the best I can do at the moment.

As Chairman of the Green Party of Atlasia, I declare this party to be in formal alliance with the Labor Party and Peace Party for all future federal, regional, and local elections.

On case you missed it because Sev didn't bother to post it in the NPC thread.

Will probably factor this - depending on the situation - in the next round of polling, barring further crazy developments.

Just to be clear as to avoid this kind of confusion, the Dixieland Patriot's Party is most definitely running in Mississippi. As can be seen here.

Campaigning is set to end on Friday, there will be a polling update late on late Monday/early Tuesday. Would have been ideal to do one this week, but a family member is terminally ill and I'm understandably rather bereft of motivation.
