There is absolutely no way I will support this with full military restrictions on Israel. Israel is our greatest ally in the region - placing restrictions on them will simply alienate them, though I'm sure tension has already been created by how the Senate has handled this issue thus far.

Persuasion should come from behind closed doors between Atlasia and Israel. Removing part of their military aid might only be appropriate after intense negotiations have fallen through, and that has not occurred yet. It is my hope that Bacon King, upon being confirmed as SoEA, will recognize this and go meet with Israeli government leaders.

An amendment:

This is about as far as I'm willing to go on Israel - the appropriate thing to do here would be to simply enter into extensive private negotiations with Israel. This is not how we should be handling things with our greatest ally in the region.

Private negotiations first is the way to go. Israel is our greatest ally in the region and the current version will severely jeopardize that and only further alienate them. There are better ways to communicate our concerns to the Israeli government, but unfortunately the majority in this chamber have absolutely no interest in reaching a bi-partisan solution.

I will be a solid Nay against the current version. It amazes me how far to the left this Senate is turning - it is my hope that the October elections changes that.

Why do you want Atlasia to directly support, with arms, the occupation of Palestine?
Why do you want to say untrue things about me?

I have stated before that the Atlasian government needs to push Israel, but it needs to be in a reasonable and responsible manor. Placing full restrictions on them will only further alienate them, which I don't see solving the problem one bit.

Hopefully the SoEA will chime in on this soon.

Aye

Here's a thought: Why don't we actually TRY to negotiate with Israel and meet them before putting restrictions on them? According to both SoEA's offices, that hasn't taken place. We're not even really "threatening" them with this restriction - we're blindsiding them with it. We don't even have an updated status on Israel since nothing has been done by the administration, to my knowledge, to work with them.

I object Sad

Let's actually sit down and have a conversation with Israel before talking about placing sanctions.

Why is it so important that we slap down restrictions before even sitting down and talking to Israel? I've asked this multiple times to no avail.

I would appreciate SoEA's analysis on how the current wording would affect our relationship with Israel, especially considering how unstable their current government is.

If there is nothing else to be done on this, I am going to open a final vote soon.
I will not be staging a Ted Cruz here. Wink
