Nikon, but primarily depends on what you're photographing.

If taking photos of people, then what, and what if sights?

I have an unfair bias towards Nikon simply because I have more experience with them. Either one is good quality. With those scenarios, both could be excellent, so I would weigh the cost of the camera as the main factor in determining what to get. Don't just take my advice though, as there's probably people here who could give better advice. Tongue

I got a Cannon Powershot for Christmas and I like it. It was 180 US Dollars but I got it for 99 with Warranty.

It's not too bad, would have preferred a Cannon battery instead of AAA's.

I want to do Photo Shoots as hobbies so so far it's been a decent camera. Never tried Nikon though

I wanted one real bad just had no money.

I don't think it matters much, they both look awesome.

I prefer Pentax. My film-based SLR from the early 90's was a Pentax P-30 and I invested in a number of lenses and other fittings specific to that camera body. I also liked the results I was getting from my Pentax, which was one of the top brands in the latter part of the 20th century. Pentax wasn't as aggressive into the digital market as its competitors, so I waited longer than many to get a good new camera. When I did replace my P-30, I went with the Pentax K-5.

Like muon2, I like Pentax also.  But if choosing between Nikon and Canon, I will take Canon for two reasons.  One, it takes better pictures.  Two, it's named after the bodhisattva (pusa) Guanyin.
