I thought it was Chinese new year fireworks, but unless someone's been killed by one, I'm going with guns or grenades or something. It's coming from the public housing estate in the next block, which has some members with mafia links.

Just shouting, crying and slamming doors happening now. No ambos, only cop cars.

Seems a box of fireworks exploded, probably from a loose cigarette butt. One bloke has been taken to hospital. The cops are interviewing everyone who was watching or in a house or apartment that overlooked the intersection where they were being set off-roughly 500 people

Melbourne, where the mafia war is over but who knows. We've had mafia killings in Port before.

But anyway, it was one big box of fireworks exploding all at oncewhich sounded very much like gunfire for about 10-15 seconds and leaving one guy in hospital and a lot of people very angry with eachother. One of the things I have noticed with the residens of the public housing commission flats is that they really do seem, as a general rule, to yell at eachother quite a lot. Certainly more than the neighbours who are non-commission. There seems to be some controversy as to why the box exploded; it seems 'Brett' threw a cigarette at the box on purpose.
