The Thai government - and particularly the military - knows exactly how to deal with the Muslim problem in the South. Thais basically deal with social problems by shooting first and asking questions never.
Its a wonderful country - both tolerant and ruthless. They let you do whatever you want, until you cross the line of threatening society or security, and then they just slaughter you. This works on a personal level to - Thais are calm, polite, will put up with a lot, but if you humiliate someone or cause him/her to loose face badly - you may be killed or beaten severely.
