The guy is in his sophomore term.  He's not getting the job.

Kevin McCarthy was elected a Majority Whip at the end of his sophomore term. Right, it's not Majority Leader but still, seniority is not as important regarding leadership positions as it is with committee assignments

Majority Whip is nowhere close to Majority Leader, even if are both elected to positions.  You don't campaign to become Whip. The Leader selects his Whip candidate and everyone votes for you unopposed.

Whip is very much subject to a campaign. There's a big effort now to succeed McCarthy pitting Scalise against Roskam with Stutzman in the mix. When Newt became Speaker neither Newt nor Maj Leader Armey wanted Tom DeLay to be Whip but he got the votes anyway.

So the next Majority Leader is Hamilton's Congressman.

Cringeworthy.

But isn't it really fitting that the Republican majority leader will be a McCarthy?

McCarthyism lives very well in the 21st century as well, no doubt.

I believe Labrador should be the leader because if you sit down and you really think, McCarthy is a hard-left GOPer much like Cantor is.  It would have been pointless to have that primary if we are just going to keep the same failed leadership.

Yeah, I forgot about that.

No reason why this couldn't be about Labrador putting down a marker to being named Whip when McCarthy is promoted to Majority Leader.

Fun fact: If he were to win and Boehner were to promptly go ahead and resign, then both chambers' Majority Leaders would be LDS.

Whip is by election, not appointment. The Chief Deputy Whip is an appointment by the Whip.

Anyone who is interested in either the ML race or the Whip race (or GOP politics generally) should read Robert Costa's twitter.

Lists for declared support in each race. There might be a annoying ad you have to close first.
