Basically a common sense bill that ensures companies that are awarded federal contracts are complying with our laws. It does not affect companies that aren't under a contract with us, and it does not harm employers that didn't know the citizenship status of an employee.

I will oppose this bill when it comes to a vote

Do you have any actual reasons for opposing it?

I will also oppose this bill, as this stigmatizes undocumented immigrants who are trying to make ends meet.

So you think it's acceptable that Atlasia offers federal contracts to companies that violate the law?

This wouldn't affect their ability to be employed with companies that are not seeking federal contracts.

Fixing the title concern.

Better?

Your Employees Must Be Legal Citizens Act

House Bill

To ensure that organizations receiving federal contracts are employing legal Atlasian citizens.

Be it enacted in the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Republic of Atlasia assembled,

Quote
1.  Any organization seeking or holding federal Atlasian government contracts which is found to knowingly employ undocumented immigrants will be ineligible for new contracts for two years following the discovery of these immigrants.

   A. The SoIA shall compile an effective and efficient procedure by which companies can verify the status of their employees. The terms of the above shall apply once the procedure is in place and companies have been given a “reasonable” chance to utilize it.

   B. Contracts that deal with critical defense or emergency related procurement may be given exemption based on the situation, but must be required to take steps to ensure the legality of their workforce going forward and the Department of Internal Affairs shall certify they have done so.

2.  The bill is not affecting contracts for companies, that employed undocumented immigrants without knowing their legal status. Said companies are required to remove any undocumented employees within a period of two months instead.

3. No provision in this bill shall be construed as to condone or legalize any violations of current laws regarding racial profiling and civil rights. Any and all such violations shall be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of existing law at the time of the violation's occurrence.

Objection. What the heck is a "legal citizen"? This just takes a bill that's already anti-immigrant, and changes the title to a parody of itself. Adding insult to injury doesn't make it better.

People who have a legal right to live in the country.

This bill isn't "anti-immigrant". Nothing in this bill outlines that undocumented immigrants be deported, nothing in this bill says they can't be employed anywhere else, nothing in this bill goes after legal immigrants. This simply goes after big companies that bid for federal contracts, often paying undocumented immigrants significantly less than they should be paid, sometimes under the table. You'd think the Labor Party (and I'm counting you in this because you are basically part of their party) would support going after businesses that violate laws, not protect them.

Fixing the title concern, part II.

Aye

It's a shame that the Labor Party and those that form a coalition with them support the exploitation of workers and big companies that violate the law, and can't even be bothered to engage in an honest debate about it. Talk about hypocrisy.

It's also a shame that Jimmy voted against it, especially when his own running mate, and the top of his party's ticket in the upcoming election has mentioned support for these sorts of measures, and even expressed that this bill doesn't go far enough.

It doesn't look good for our "esteemed" speaker.
