From what know about LBJ he was a party man first and foremost. I could easily see him putting aside his hatred of RFK and campaigning for him just as he did for Humphrey. It's just a question of if Texans would have listened. And considering that Humphrey was a better fit for the state and still barely won it, I do think Nixon would have won Texas in this sencerio. I just don't think that would be out of LBJ not doing everything he could for RFK to win.
